Important Facts About the Ebola Virus; New Travel History Questionnaire for Registering Students

The safety of our students and employees is a top priority for FCPS. Recent media coverage has drawn increased attention about the Ebola virus. It is important to know that Ebola is not spread by being in the same room with someone who is infected. Transmission requires direct contact with an infected person's bodily fluids, such as blood or secretions, or from exposure to contaminated objects, such as needles. Fairfax County Public Schools is working collaboratively with the Fairfax County Health Department to monitor the status of any students who are visiting health care rooms. Communicable disease guidelines and facts about Ebola can be found on FCPSnet so that employees can learn more.

Also, to address community concerns regarding the Ebola virus and the enrollment of new students, FCPS is implementing a new registration questionnaire (FCPSnet) that specifically asks about travel history to or from West Africa in the past 21 days for the student and family members. Anyone answering yes will be referred to the Fairfax County Health Department for monitoring.

Principals will also be sending letters home to parents (FCPSnet) to provide facts about Ebola as well as links to more information.

Will they check these questionnaires for truthfulness, or will it be like free lunches? Just take their word for it.

With the racial aspects of Ebola, we already know the answer to that.

YES, I agree. Someone exposed might not report it.
That would be REALLY BAD.

So, to be safe, it would be BETTER if someone reports a FALSE POSITIVE now.

Get the safety ball rolling, unlike Dallas which had no idea what they were doing.

"Address community concerns? Referred for monitoring?" What a load of absolutely thoughtless, empty nonsense that is. That is NOT guidance; it's just something thrown out in an attempt to cover their ass. That's what is sent out when strep throat is going around!
Until/unless officials and people in position to influence the public will get their lips off the pipe, take a political risk and decide to lay out what we really do know and what we DONT know so that we can protect ourselves & our kids, we are all in for a world of hurt.
We have citizens in positions of public trust & responsibility who aren't willing to be truthful about their exposure; it's absurd to believe the word of those who do have reason to fear making themselves known to officials.
Obama is a nightmare come true. For those who drank the Kool-Aid & voted for the piece of garbage are just as goddamned guilty.

I'm surprised FCPS is even acknowledging that such a thing as Ebola even exists. They normally wait until something is a widely known fact before they mention it.

I know if I was a custodian, nurse, or bus driver (folks that come into contact with bodily fluids), I'd quit NOW. Their lives are not worth a plug nickel to Gatehouse.

Why new students? Some kid informs the front office that they, or they heard someone else in the school, got back from Liberia 8 days ago and the kid gets sent home for 3 weeks or they shut the school? What kid would lie about that?

Solution easily solved.............

Keep all LEGAL AMERICAN KIDS home. The other 99% of kids can be quarantined to the school.
