That's right. This morning a young working age couple pushed a grocery cart all the way across the Commerce Street bridge, crossed busy intersections, the cart was so heavy it took both of them to push it uphill. This cart will be dumped in someones trash after dark.

Many customers who live a few blocks away from our stores and have no cars ask if they can have a cart of their own. If we have seen them before, we normally give them one, though perhaps not a brand new one. A few of these disappear of course, but most come back in a week or ten days and get filled up with groceries again.

I suspect the O.P. was more concerned with them being Hispanic and with a shopping cart. I'm certain if it was a poor white person with a shopping cart, there would be less concern. If there is one thing I've learned on Fairfax Underground its that people around here are much more racist when the post is anonymous than they would be in public.

Second, I would say that there is no such thing as "assimilation into America." America is a mix of multiple cultures, races, and creeds. I'm assuming you left him out of your thoughts when you boldly announced that "they" shouldn't use shopping carts.
