A message from KEENE MILL ES
Dear Families,
FCPS Safety and Security has alerted schools in our area that police investigated an alleged threat to school safety discovered on a social media site. No evidence to make any charges was found.
Nevertheless, we have taken the following precautions to ensure the safety of all our students:
Police are providing surveillance within our community. You may see a police car or an FCPS School Security vehicle parked on school property. This should not alarm you. Rather, this is to provide a sense of protection. Extra staff members have been deployed on school property and on adjacent property during school opening and closing. Teachers and staff members have been fully briefed on the alleged incident, and we have reviewed safety precautions with all staff and students.
As always, we are concerned about the safety of our children and want to work with you to ensure their safety as they travel to and from school. We encourage all families to take precautions and to review general safety guidelines with your children.
General safety guidelines include:
Children should go directly home, or to their child-care provider, from school.
Young children should be accompanied by adults or responsible older children, particularly if they walk to and from school.
Children should never talk to strangers.
Children should never take gifts, candy, etc. from strangers.
Children should never enter a stranger's car or accompany a stranger for any reason.
Children should be reminded that they should always talk to you about any incident that makes them feel uncomfortable.
We know you all want a safe environment for your children and for all the children in our community. You can help create that environment by teaching your children about safety, by being alert to strangers in your neighborhood, and by reporting suspicious behavior to the police. If we learn more regarding this situation, please be assured that the school will pass along any further information that will be helpful to you.
