Lawn Aeration and Seeding

Who do you recommend for lawn aeration and seeding? The first quote I got from Lawn Doctor was for $494 and I own 1/3 of an acre. That seems high to me.

If you're willing to do it yourself, might be able to save some coin by renting an aerator (and just using a drop spreader for your overseeding). Haven't rented one in awhile, but they're pretty heavy. Will need a pickup and a stout friend to load/unload, or drop off/pickup from wherever you rent.

Do. It. Yourself. $75/day for the aerator, $40 for a big bag of seed. 2 hours of your time. How do I know this? I've got that shit reserved for this weekend.

I have .57 of an acre and I'm having aeration, overseeing plus top dress done for $230. It's been that rate since 2008.

Should be about half that. That said, Lawn Doctor is a big name, big outfit.

You should start seeing signs within the next 2-3 weeks offering aeration services and $75-125 seems to be what I remember paying. Renting a machine with some neighbors may be less expensive, but we learned that lesson the hard way...even with a pickup and several strong guys the machine itself will drag you around the yard and if you have any hilly areas be very careful.

One piece of advice...aeration works much better when the ground is wet, not muddy, but today would be perfect after the rain that we had last week. Watch the weather forecast and try to schedule the aeration for 3-5 days after some soaking rain, if possible.

^^^ What he said. They are a bit of a beast to handle if you aren't used to it, and moist (not muddy) ground is ideal. Surface roots can cause issues as well. Good luck!

Did it last year for my front yard. Went in with a few neighbors and it did wonders for our yards. Rented it from Home Depot for an afternoon. Like others have said, the machine can be a handful, but once you get used to it, it shouldn't be too hard, especially if you have a good sized yard. It moves pretty fast so you will get a workout between walking behind it and manhandling it around.

Bay Country Lawns used to be cheap, but nowadays avoid them at all costs...

You can seed your lawn with the best value using bamboo seeds.

Cedar Creek Landscaping has done ours and we have been very pleased. I think they are based in Haymarket
