Why are Koreans mostly in Annandale--the East Coast--second only to Koreatown, LA? Why are the foothills of North Carolina almost entirely Costa Ricans? Why is Maine the hotbed for Somalis? Why South Carolina for Greeks? In the 90s there were more Bolivians, Peruvians and Guatemalans in the area (legally). It's just how immigration, illegal or otherwise, happens, and has been that way since early history. Not having a community or being part of a community is a modern phenomenon. If Ffx County had to become a refugee population it'd be screwed since everyone is a self-absorbed individualist with no group spirit and hateful of others lol

Prepared for what? I think they are in the best position to learn English. I don't think we will all change over to another language. They are the ones who have to get prepared.

It is amazing how quick little kids pick up a language.

I used to drive a bus out of an elementary school which was almost all Hispanic. First day of school, new kindergartners often spoke not a word of English. By Christmas, they're talking to me with little or no accent. This happened many times.

Don't get me wrong, this Country is through. I'm glad my life is almost over and I hope I'm gone before the final plunge, but kids learning English is one of the few things we don't need to worry about.

During the salvadoran civil war - the DC metro area and Los Angeles became the top two landing spots for salvadorans fleeing their homeland. You can not under estimate the effect that the United States government and industry has had on crippling and undermining Latin American governments over the last 200 years.

We have exploited Latin American labor to dig canals, pick fruit, and do dangerous work in unsafe conditions.

We have supported the overthrow of democratically elected governments and armed and trained revolutionaries. We have supported and trained government death squads responsible for massacres.

Our actions have contributed to destabilizing a whole geographic region and then we acted shocked when people flee the shitty living conditions we pushed them into.

Pick up a history book..... Maybe start with Mexico in the 1850's, Guatemala in the 1950's, Cuba in the 1960's, Chile in the 1970's, El Salvador and Nicaragua in the 1980's and the stfu.

The Latino/Centro-Americano Chicano "underground pipeline!!!". Similar to the Underground railroad during the times of the American Civil war where slaves could escape from the south. Only now the government pays "child support" for folks to adopt them and take them into their families. Much like you get in Maryland for adopting and caring for unwanted children. I worked with a guy from Maryland that made a pile of money adopting kids from the state and raising them.

We need to deport illegals, they come here to work and live for 5-10-15-20+ years and not pay one dime in State nor Federal Taxes nor pay into Medicare or Social Security. Bleeding hearts claim they pay taxes....BS! Look at the IRS laws regarding undocumented workers in the US, the IRS HOPES they pay under an honor system. You think illegals are going to pay taxes to the IRS? Heck no, they send it across the border so why not go after those who wire money across the border and take 30% plus an additional for Medicare and Social Security.
