Jury duty strategy?

I got my first summons for jury duty - scheduled for July 29 and I am in a low group number.
I am scheduled to go on a three-week vacation to Europe the next day (I've got a ticket and hotels all booked, so I can easily prove it).
Do I punt and ask for a postponement of my service? Or should I show up on the 29th and then, if involved voir dire, argue that I cannot serve beyond the one day as my pre-existing schedule does not allow for it.

I got a call from the Fairfax County Sheriff's Department telling me that because I didn't show up for jury duty back in April, I violated the law and they had a warrant for my arrest. I didn't remember receiving a notice, so the nice guy on the phone said I could avoid arrest and jail time by paying the fine in the form of a thing called a Money Pak that I could purchase at 7-11. It was really easy and only cost $300. I called the sheriff back with the information and he recorded on the arrest warrant and confirmed I was off the hook, but warned me not to miss jury duty the next time! Yeah, right!
I would rather pay that $300 than serve jury duty or take a day off work to sit in court and possibly face jail time or worse. So don't show and go on your vacation! It will cost your more than $300 to change your plans!

I voted in the 1972 presidential election. Then I heard that potential jurors are largely picked from voter rolls.
Let my registration expire and never voted again. Never, not once been called for jury duty. My silly wife that votes religiously has been called several times.
So, don't vote. It is meaningless and a colossal waste of time. Plus, jury duty can cost you your job. I know, it's supposed to be illegal to penalize an employee for jury duty, but like age discrimination, it's impossible to prove.

However if you go remember most potential jurors never get called to go into a court room. Of those that do, they are questioned about whether they can be impartial. Just say that you cannot and they'll cut you lose. But even if you get a trial, 80% last less than a day (shoplifting, small drug, DWI etc.)

I'm an attorney who regulary practices in Fairfax.
Once I had a case where I asked during the voir dire of jurors if anybody has any prejudice against my client. One woman raised her hand and said that Asians can't drive. She was dismissed. My client was Black.

I OVER HEARD THAT fx co / va cheats indictments (ie, on republicans and poor) and or JURY by
by populating the indictment commitee with gov workers who are highly partial to stepping on anyone that would get in the way of their retirement pay: some of who, 1990+ era, were getting retirement (and workign a SECOND cush gov job) after just 20 yrs service
and by ignoring A.B.A. rules on (ie, jury instructinos)

nation wide county gov are notorious for cash awards to gov insiders and lenience on gov workers (as well as benefits to gov workers)
and putting blame and debt on anyone non-gov ESPECIALLY the poor or someone soem gov workers owe money to or do not like

tHATS FUNNY, I DID JURY DUTY IN DC AND THEY GAVE US A TICKET TO CASH IN FOR 4 DOLLARS. WHEN THEY GAVE ME MY TICKET I PUT IT ON TOP OF THE MACHINE AND SHOUTED 'FREE TICKET I DONT WANT IT' .

Before they choose a jury, they will provide the jury pool with some information about the case. Then they will ask the jury pool if they have heard anything about the case prior to arriving at court. If a potential juror has heard about the case and in his/her judgement, the information will influence his/her decision, that person will not be chosen to be a juror.
