WASHINGTON (WUSA9 )-- Tuesday, June 10 is primary day in Virginia. Virginians will be heading to the polls to select republican and democratic candidates for the U.S. Congress in districts 1, 7 and 8.
The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
WUSA9 will have election results all night long on wusa9.com and live reports on the 11 p.m. news.
The race most locals are watching is for the 8th Congressional District. This seat is currently held by Rep. Jim Moran, who announced he is retiring from office. There are 7 democratic candidates vying for his seat.
U.S. CONGRESS-DISTRICT 1
Republican Primary
This district spreads from Prince William County to Hampton Roads. It includes portions of Fauquier, Prince William, Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties in our area. The winner will face Libertarian candidate Xavian Draper in the November General Election.

He is a member of the Armed Services Committee, and is chairman of its Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. He also serves on the Subcommittee on Seapower and Expeditionary Forces.

U.S. CONGRESS-DISTRICT 7
Republican Primary
This congressional district stretches from Culpeper to the Richmond area. Barring an independent candidate, the winner of the GOP primary will more than likely be the next 7th district representative because Virginia's 7th Congressional District Democrats cancelled their convention and did not nominate anyone to run against the eventual GOP nominee.
1. Eric Cantor: he has held this seat since 2001. He is House Majority Leader. He previously served as House Minority Whip (2009-2011). He served in the Virginia House of Delegates (1992-2001).
2. David Brat: is an economics professor at Randolph Macon College in Ashland. He says his problem with Cantor is based largely on the majority leader's votes to raise the debt ceiling, his vote to end the government shutdown, and his voiced support for immigration reform.
