Reckless Driving Ticket

80 in a 55 zone

16 years old (almost 17)

Reckless Speeding

Cop didn't tell me how much I was speeding until he gave me the paper that said I have to go to court.

Also didn't pull me over when I was speeding but after I passed the toll and after I went through the exit.

Suggest you check out the "Reckless Driving" thread on City Data's Northern Virginia web site. You'll get better advice there than you will on FFXU, as you can see by the above response.

IMHO: Lawyer is highly recommended, but I think you're going to lose your license anyway.

I know it's my fault, not the cops, will I go to jail or be fined the $2500, and have it on my criminal record?

I got the same specifications of reckless as you about a year ago. I was at a +1 driving record which means I have had a few tickets. I got my car calibrated and took the rport to the judge. The object is to get your number below 80mph. AS in 79 mph is not reckless. Just an expensive ticket.Seek legal advice please...I got the advice, paid $200 for it but went to court without a lawyer. However, being under 18, how can you be that stupid?? This is meant to be your learning period of driving, hence why you get your full rights to drive at 18. (more passengers and no driving timing restrictions). All i say is good luck!

20mph over the posted limit is also statutory reckless. The officer had no discretion. If he didn't write for reckless, he would hear about from his superiors.

If you have a clean record the judge might cut you some slack and reduce it to just speeding. Virginia doesn't have prison space for speeders. Virginia will take your money though.

Be proactive and take an all day safe driving course before you go to court. Judge might cut you some slack.

You shouldn't be driving that fast no matter what at age 16. Adults with good driving skills can do that and get away with it, but you shouldn't be even trying that.

Did the police clock you with radar, laser, following you or what? The accuracy of any method can be challenged. As noted above, talk to a lawyer. Also, when you go to court take your parents with you so they can tell the judge what they are doing to straighten you out. It might persuade him to give you a break.

True shit. You don't know shit about how to REALLY drive well (defensively) until at least 21/22. Even then you don't know shit.

Going that fast at that age is a sure way to get to heaven.

Another spoiled NOVA brat. I hope Mommy and Daddy revoke sponsorship of your DL before your courtdate to save the judge some trouble. Any idea what you just did to their insurance rates? Nope, because you only think of yourself
