Maryland plates in NOVA
Posted by: Colleen ()

I was wondering what the rules are for someone living in Fairfax County and has a car with Maryland tags. I have a neighbor across the street from me who is a renter. They have about 5 or 6 cars. They normally park their Maryland car in front of my house and have so much space in front of their house mostly. However, I did noticed a cop come by for our other neighbors for something. The Maryland car was parked in front of our house that day. When the cop was inside the other neighbors house, the guy across the street came out right away to move his car. I'm thinking it's not allowed in Fairfax county. But I wanted to make sure if having Maryland tags and living in Virginia are allowed? If not, whom do I complain?

Thank You.

Report it here:

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dta_taxevaders

I get tired of seeing it too. The ever-ongoing debate at work is which state is better to live in...VA or MD? Seeing all the MD plates constantly in VA is all the proof I need. You'd be hard pressed to find a VA plate in PG County or MoCo after dark.

Get the fuck off of fairfaxunderground, and get back to surfing "worldstar".

NoVA is a much better place to live than anywhere in MD.

Waaaa we get it you can get a 3 bedroom house for $180k in PG county. You couldn't pay me enough to live in that nigger infested slum.

Much of the Maryland plates here in NoVA are rental fleets or courtesy loaners from dealerships. Arguably, they are the ones who evade the most taxes.

It is just fine to have an out of state plate if you have another residence like I do. If the vehicle is parked in Fairfax county it must be taxed as property in Fairfax county.
If you notice many service companies like Sears, ARS, Micheal and son etc put Maryland tags on their trucks to dodge the property tax. Remember that commercial vehicles are taxed at a much higher rate than personal vehicles. Those companies are ripping us off on taxes.

In my neighborhood, close to a subway station, the residents need parking permits to park on the street. If you don't have VA plates, you are SOL.

Virginia DMV will not give a driver license to an uncodumented worker -- oops I mean illegal immigrant.

Maryland will.

So then when the beaner gets a car, he titles it in Maryland because that is where his driver license is.

And as of yesterday, so does DC.

Seems to me your complaint is that the neighbor is parking in front of your house instead of his own.

It doesn't really matter what license plate the car has. His living in VA with MD plates is not hurting anyone. I'd love to see hard numbers on how much money in registration fees and vehicle taxes is really in question.

Another reason we see so many Md. tags is because a lot of Federal agencies
are leasing space in Fairfax office buildings. I have a friend who lives in
Rockville and drives to Fairfax City every day. He does some shopping during
lunch so he won't have to do it when he gets home. He doesn't like this
but the agency didn't ask him if he wanted to relocate.

Huh? Why do you need hard numbers? The bottom line is the OP pays personal property taxes on his vehicle and his neighbor does not. If it belongs to someone that lives in Fairfax, that is against the law. How stupid are you?

Multiply on average ~$300 by a couple of thousand cars and it starts to add up pretty quick. Plus, since he/she is a renter and not paying real estate property taxes, Fairfax County isn't getting a dime from them, but I'm sure they're using some kind of county services along the way. (And don't make the argument that some of his/her rent will pay the property tax, because the property owner will pay it whether the house is rented or empty regardless.)

The county will catch up with them eventually and they can either pay up or move back to MD. I wonder which option they'll choose?

Thank you everyone for your advices. I wanted some opinions on what to do instead of going overboard with complaints. I'm not a complainer at all but if something isn't right I wanted help on what to do. I will check out the website Fxxxx. Thank you everybody again.

The free riders are really annoying me these days. There is a house on my block that has a new Mercedes SUV...with MD tags. They've lived here for years, and keep it hidden in the garage. Got kids too, and schools are a lot of what that car tax pays for. Don't buy the car if you can pay the taxes.

Definitely report the tax evaders at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dta_taxevaders

The County needs that tax money to bail out more crooked failing arts centers to prevent Wells Fargo from getting stuck with bad private loans that have nothing to do with the County.

WHen I bought my car, the dealer gave me 60 day maryland tags- but if the police ran the plates it does come back to my VA address. I also got VA emissions/inspecgtion on it (yes there is a "15" sticker on there too!)

This sheds some light on the new car tags, but the hard MD tags, they are CHEATING.

it is a valid argument...the home owners DO pay property taxes. the residents do buy items in VA which means they are paying sales tax in VA, chances are they are buying gas in VA which means taxes. and since they are buying utilities in VA they are paying taxes.

the only tax they maybe dodging is car tax and state income tax, in the case of income tax they would have be getting paid under the table or on assistance...

You libs love taxes, love being enslaved. You should offer to pay their taxes for them so they can register their cars in VA. Just like forcing the obamacare tax on the rest of us.

Fuck libs.

All the GMU buses (operated by Reston Limo) have MD tags. As a public university, it seems wrong for GMU to help Reston Limo dodge taxes.

Not Maryland, but I keep my vehicle registered out of state to avoid the stupid emissions sticker and your stupid taxes.

If you retards in NOVA ever grow a brain and stop being so fucking retarded about everything, I'll jump on board. Until then, fuck you.
