The sad truth is that our parks are not what they were a decade ago. This is largely because funding for staff and maintenance has been relatively cut. Volunteers are OK for minor fix up projects and to deal with short term situations, but they are not a reliable long term solution.

When people say the County needs to get its priorities straight, the parks are one example of this. The first step would be to pound into the head of the School Board, Garza and every educational interest group that schools are only one piece of the puzzle. They are not the entire picture. While the schools might "need" additional money for some of their plans, other government functions have a far greater need for it.

What we really need to do is pave over those parks and build more
condos and townhouses so we can get more tax revenue. We should
also subsidize the units for illegal immigrants.

The parks are being overcrowded the same way our houses are...take that as you will.

A 1 bedroom apartment can only take so many people in it at a time- same with a park- the grass being trampled, trash being left, fights breaking out due to drinking when you're not supposed to, etc.....

We don't invest in parks anymore. Just more soccer fields and most of those are becoming artificial turf. And parking lots for the players. For the rest of us...no money left. Your tax dollars at work.

Spring is coming . It's time to get ready to headout a nearby Fairfax County Park or openspace with kids or family !

How do we strengthen the work of FCPS and Partners within resident imterests and means ?

Conversation; Knowledge is important and FCPS is a non-profit, 501-c-3 organization with incredible ability to do good in the community via philanthropic donations to strengthen Parks.

I urge everyone to download their 3013 Annual Report as posted in their website which is available to the public.

I have done that and I am impressed with the skills, dedication and coommitment of those who are volunteers for FCPS.

Strengthening Community Vitlaity will make the ecoomic pie bigger and strengthen ability of the Fairfax County to do more to preserve greenspace and add miniparks in the neighborhood revitalizations that's on going.

Community vitality depends on innovation and entrepreneurship culture support and more people creating technology businesses that are successful at Fairfax County.
