Boat Show Coming to Dulles Expo Center

Even as the cold weather lingers in Northern Virginia, the National Capital Boat Show next weekend can help residents dream of warmer weather, the cherry trees in full bloom and getting out on the water this summer.
The Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly will host dozens of dealers displaying hundreds of 2014 boat models and accessories, said Dave Body, show manager. The show will offer a wide range of runabouts, saltwater fishing boats, ski boats, pontoons, deck boats, jet boats, jon boats, and personal watercraft.
Experts will be on hand to give information and answer questions about boats, marinas, financing, insurance, boat maintenance and repair, and boating safety.
“This is the perfect opportunity for boaters to get a first look at an impressive variety of all models,” said Body. “The market ebbs and flows, but the pontoon boat, because it has a large capacity, is real popular now.”
Chantilly has always been a good market because of the high proportion of two-income families in the area, Body said. The market is also young: the average of a Chantilly resident average is 36.1 with an estimated median household income in 2011 was $117,567 (up from $87,991 in 2000), according to Census data.
Dealers like to bring their larger boats, up to 35-feet-long, to the show, he said. The Expo Center is a big facility, making it a good venue for the large boats. The show runs from March 7-9.
