Winter won't end: More snow to come?

Winter isn't going away quietly. Another round of wintry weather is headed toward the D.C. area in the next few days.

Let me be honest with you, Sunday night into Monday doesn't look pretty. And it stays that way into Tuesday.

My second bout of honesty: While it is difficult at this time to pinpoint exactly what we are going to experience in the D.C. metro area, it looks like a mix of everything from rain to sleet to freezing rain and snow as temperatures during that time frame are still in question.

What we know: Sunday night continuing into very early Tuesday we are going to get a system that moves in pretty much from due west traveling due east pushing it right into the Mid Atlantic. Right now, the storm system is just off the West Coast, in the Pacific Ocean, getting ready to deliver some harsh weather to the West Coast.

Most of Sunday will remain dry as temperatures top-out in the mid 40s around D.C. with cloudy skies. As an area of low pressure forms and moves into the region, precipitation will begin, most likely as rain. As temperatures fall, a change to a wintry mix will take place -- sleet and freezing rain. This system takes its time to move out of the region and looks to stick around at least through Monday night, perhaps just after midnight leading into Tuesday.

We will continue to keep an eye on it as we nail down details. At this point, just know that winter continues as some more winter weather is headed our way just in time to start the next work week.
