I loved how the Weather Channel's predictions were all over the place but no storm warning. In a matter of 12 hours, I saw TWC predictions go from 2-4", 4-8", 5-8", 2-4", 1-3", and as the precip had passed 1-2" and finally under 1". Local stations mostly stayed T-2".

With the level of technology available, are we really at a point where we still can't reliably predict the weather? I understand it's constantly changing but we can split a fucking atom while these morons can't reliably tell you whether we'll get a foot or inch of snow. Do these meteorologists keep the bar low on purpose as a form of job security?

Why not, it works for Al Gore (who for years, had no one single energy saving feature on his homes) and the other Global Warming advocates.

"are we really at a point where we still can't reliably predict the weather"

Actually, yes. There were a number of remote sensing stations shut down during the mid/late 90s (not just US) that provided high quality weather data (though that wasn't their primary mission). Today we rely on satellite measurements (which are of mixed quality at best) and modeling results.

For some fun head over to the WaPo CWG, where you'll find any number of yahoos claiming that their favorite model is the BESSSSTTTTESTTTT!!!!11!!!!!! instead of actually tracking the damn weather (my favorite is the constant OMGSTORM IS HITTING HERNDON W/HEAVY SNOW when the traffic cameras show bright sunshine). This allows them to claim any result as a "success"...
