My kid had to call me and I had to come from my office 30 miles away to get him. It the second time this happens, They did this about a week or two ago to when there was a fire in the building. (student were out for a 1-2 hours) 2 8th graders started the fire

School Failed to meet AYP for 5 years.

"My daughter has been attending Walt Whitman for only three months, I am not impressed in the least with the 'stellar' academics that I have heard so much about. I think that the school does a horrible job with teaching and discipline. My daughter comes home from school scared for her safety. Lots of fights and lack of respect from students to teachers. I will send my daughter to another school next year. I have heard nothing but great things about Fairfax County schools and this school has done nothing to live up to those expectations. Ft Belvoir children have no other option to go to another public school. I would homeschool my child before sending back to Walt Whitman.

It's okay, this is typical for a public school. If you have the money or can get it, put your kid in a private school. That's what I did after experiencing problems like this. Sure I had to get a 2nd job to do it, but it was worth it.

By all means, come to FFXU to report this vile incident!

So this somehow takes the place of actually formalizing a complaint with the FCPL?

This is what clueless parents are doing now, they whine and complain online and hope it bubbles up to Administration magically somehow?

(Someone at Gatehouse in a high-up position decides that they should review any new complaints; do they go through the official process by checking their email, the department that handles complaints and online complaints forms, or do they get on the internet and check what some parent has written semi-anonymously on a public online forum?)

My guess is they will never see your unoffical complaint that is written here.

I also think that your kid, whose last name is probably perez and is in 7th grade will now be harassed by his fellow classmates mercilessly because his mommy decided to take it up with the internet instead of using some common sense.

Instead of whining over here, try going to FCPL website to find a complaint form.

i was 1 of the 7th graders stuck outside. it was bad but they let everyone go in the shade and alot of kids got ice water, they were aloud to call parents, text and listen to music, kids with medical conditions were suppose to tell a teacher nd if it was seriouse they were taking to sherwood hall libary. so if your child had a medical condition and didnt tell a teacher its not the schools fault! >.<

Why the hell would they give the kids ice without water? Any sensible school would have a stockpile of bottled water.

First off, the first 'fire' was a gas leakage. Not a fire set by 8th graders. You guys are 'parents' not students at this school so you wouldn't know anything first hand about the school. Only what you hear. It may not be the best school in the county but trust me the administrators try their very best to control this school the best they can. It's the students faults I'm not going to lie. And today, it was a fun day. I can clearly remember hearing teachers yelling to children if you need medication come to the front. It's YOUR child's fault if he/she didn't hear them. There were teachers yelling it EVERYWHERE. They gave C lunch free lunch. They gave us ice which would eventually lead to water in that particular temperature. I'm pretty sure you guys are just going by what you heard. Maybe you guys should've talked specifically to the principal instead of what you heard from your child. Take your child out of the school all you want, it don't matter. Not like anyone's going to care because either way, regardless Fairfax county is still one of the best county in the nation.

they didnt just give us ice they gave us some water with the ice so that we can drink it right away nd still have ice. dont blame the school for these things nd dont just go by what you here, who knows your child could be lieing cuz they dont like the school go to the principle nd talk to her or take ur kid out.

I am also an 8th grader. And I thought today was fun. Not sure why that lady is mad. I don't like the tardy policy or locker polcys they have but it's fun school. It like any other school on Fairfax country.

Yes, Fairfax has demonstrated quite well at their ability to deny public access to children of special needs, even with an appeal process, even with numerous mediation meetings, it sadly took the internet and the airwaves to get the county to follow the law, and allow my son access with his service dog.

Now My daughter who has a medical plan in place for Epilepsy was left out in the sun from 11:00 to 1:20 2 hours and 20 minutes, she asked her teacher to call home, was denied, she asked to go inside, was denied, and taking it up with the school board, and all the proper channels, yeah been there done that. The same morons making these choices and decisions are the same morons reading the complaints emailed.

Heres what I say needs to be done, MEDIA MEDIA MEDIA, I think another NBC news cast might finally get some of these morons fired, and get the right people in charge of this place, its VERY evident that the ones in charge now have no idea what they are doing.

Oh and I spoke to the Principle, my response was all I can say is sorry, I have 950 kids to worry about, lets not also forget the 20 minutes of teachers and aides arguing with one another in front of me the parent about who was gonna ride in the ambulance because the EMT's needed a teacher presense to go to the ER, I wonder what that parent would say if they saw what I saw.

My daughter does not lie to me, its called proper raising, and once I got to the school and witnessed for myself 30-50 minutes of utter chaos, yeah I am more inclined to beleive her over anyone else.

Walt Whitman and this school system has been a thorn in my side for 2 years, taking my kid out of their school is not the answer, the answer is removing the administrators in place and replacing them with someone able to do the job better.

You guys need to chill out. Whitman might be ghetto and bad but it's alright , okay? I was a student out there with some issues. I survived!

fine i would like to see you do that job, to do your best to take care of over 900 students outside, to take the childeren who have medical problems to sherwood hall libary, to get all of the kids in the shade and give them water, i heard over 20 teachers screaming that if a child has a medical problem to tell them and they will take them to sherwood hall libary. you never know if your child wouldnt lie because many people i know would and there parents say they wouldnt and that tought their child the right way. dont go blaming the school!

Whitman is like many other schools with a large population of dumb, rude, obnoxious niggers and lots of hispanics who aren't interested in education.
For the other kids, most whites, and Asians, that take honor classes, the school is actually pretty good. They don't have to really deal with the ghetto niggers except they may see them acting stupid in the cafeteria or causing problems in the hallways.
But, for the most part, its a decent school; just follow the well worn advice your parents have probably already given you- stay away from the niggers!
