one FCPS had 4,555 Discipline Referrals

Discipline Data from the 2010-2011 school year show the following data:

Mount Vernon High School had 4,555 Referrals last school year.

2,602 Where For Behavior and 1,954 of those referrals where for Truant and Tardies Issues.

Grade 9 830 Behavior Referrals and 642 Attendance Referrals
Grade 10 816 Behavior Referrals and 455 Attendance Referrals
Grade 11 494 Behavior Referrals and 432 Attendance Referrals\
Grade 12 296 Behavior Referrals and 390 Attendance Referrals
CSS 166 Behavior Referrals and 34 Attendance Referrals

Why is this school so bad?
Weaknesses: During the 2010-2011 school year, the number of students receiving a failing was extremely high. Teachers had to use
the cafeteria and other areas in order to accommodate the large numbers of students. Students not reporting were allowed to go to
elective classes and other common areas so that teachers could work with students that needed individual help. Another area of
concern are the students not receiving failing grades but still need the assistance of teachers to understand concepts taught in class.

Yeah... the lowest high school on that report could have only 5% fewer referrals. Also, there is no per-capita rate shown where a school 75% of that size could have just as many referrals.

It is interesting to see maturity levels (or dropout rates) of upper grades reduce the behavior referrals so much.

At least they still give enough of a shit to write and keep records of referrals. Think of how much goes by unrecorded in the ghetto schools.

Are these numbers bad? Who knows. What did other schools get. 2000 of the referrals were because of tardy/attendance issues. What is their policy on that. Do you get written up for being late once? So basically each class had 500 attendance issues. Well if my kid goes for a half day and missed 3 classes would he not get 3 referrals? It's just stupid to throw out numbers on here. What do you want us to do? You got the info from Nardos King arrange a meeting and come up with a plan to help out. Or you can continue to come here and type in how bad it is but keep sending Johnny there Monday thru Friday. Great parenting skills!

Mt Vernon has a double whammy. It serves a mostly ghetto area to start with, and then it has to deal with all the trash from Belvoir.

I loves the troops and all that but seriously, who joins the the fucking Army? Answer: losers that would be in jail or flippin burgers otherwise.

I don't think the question should be "why is this school so bad" but why isn't there an alternative in place? This is an excessive number of referrals that DO NO GOOD for anybody, the school or the student, sounds like a training issue for administration.

Sounds like some parenting should be taking place at home rather than school

Your the looser

======================================

1) It should be a contraction, as in "You're", not "Your", which is posessive.

2) Also, "looser" is not spelled correct, it should be "loser", one S. "Looser" could be used if you wanted to make something less tight.

A three word response and you managed to mangle two of the words.

A little less time on these boards, a little more time mastering basic grammar and diction. Then, people might take you, and your viewpoint, much more seriously.

No dude, the Army wanted me BAD back in 1969. I had to respectfully decline, like Dick Cheney, I had "other priorities at the time".

The Army has a "cut" that you have to make? Now, what would that require, a pulse?

I went to MV back in the '80's. The school has definitely gone down in status. Even when I was there I could see somewhat of a decline because i had siblings that went there in the 70's and 80's. I remember how it was back in the late 70's and early 80's when I would go to activities with my siblings. The biggest reason is because of the minority class. It was mostly white when my siblings went there and when I started it was the same way(somewhat) but when I graduated I noticed ALOT more diversity. The immediate neighborhood around the school back then was pretty much considered a richy rich area. Those same neighborhoods now are pretty much on the brink of just being slum. As far as I know, Belvoir kids go to Hayfield maybe South County now but when I went Belvoir kids were sent to Hayfield. The Janna Lee area(ghetto orphans) always got bussed to MV so there was that element. In a nutshell, doesn't matter what neighborhoods are around MV, ALL OF RT. 1 IS NOW TRASH!!! Soooooooo much different back in the day. As diversity continues other neighborhood schools will fall victim to it also.
