Democrats remained on course to take control of the Virginia Senate after winning a key special election Tuesday, as thousands of Northern Virginia voters braved snow and bitter winds to cast ballots in an unusual, three-way contest.

In the race to fill the seat vacated by Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D), Democrat Jennifer Wexton prevailed over Republican John Whitbeck and independent Joe T. May, a former Republican delegate running as an independent, according to unofficial election results. The district encompasses a slice of Fairfax County and a hefty portion of eastern Loudoun County, a region that has leaned toward Democrats in recent elections but remains battleground territory.

I'm not surprised. I think most people are fed up with republicans and the GOP. Shutting down the government for a week was a devastating blow and stupid idea for the republican party.

1. She had a really good looking ad. If you thought about it, it sucked, but that doesn't matter for TV.

2. It is Nova, how could she lose? Democratic=victory.

3. She was born to the ruling class. Look at her wedding announcement in the New York Times.

For all the money the GOP poured into this election to save control of the Senate they didn't get shit.

I'd say this is a sign of times. The republican party is in trouble in VA. Even worse the VA GOP is a predictor of the near future for the GOP.

The only add I saw on tv was that stupid wench talking about how she'll keep abortions rolling in Virginia. I thought democrat women hated men...why do they need so many abortions?

Four years ago Republicans won all the top offices in a 60/40 split. Politics is a pendulum. Republicans aren't worried.
