Fairfax County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday January 21 and Wednesday January 22 2014. This will affect all school activities. Activate Code Red.

As all FCPS employeesand students are instructed, for valid information regarding closings, pull up the FCPS website....not the doctored one posted on the Underground....or watch Apple Channel 21....or listen to WTOP. Great...Just Great. My husband just slipped on the driveway and hurt his knee. He has to go to be at work this morning b/c he is a Fairfax County Worker, not a FCPS worker. He has no more leave b/c we both used all our leave...we have a baby. Couldn't Mr. Ed Long at least delay the opening by two hours. He never takes care of his people. The top leaders do not take care of the worker bees when it comes to safety...How many people are going to show up at government building??? They should delay opening to allow workers to shovel, clean car safely, etc...unless you stayed up until 1:00am last night and then shoveled off your car and street just to get up at 4:00am to get to work on time, you are probably in the same situation.

anyone who does not know how hard teachers work is very ignorant. we are not really getting days off; they will have to be made up or are already built into the calendar. shame on the parents who hate to spend the day with their children, who send their children to school sick, who bring their children to school at 2:00 when school dismisses at 3:00, who send their children to school on the day before the holidays for one or two hours so they "can get things done", and who take their children out of school for an appt. and then bring them back when there is only one hour of the day left. these type of parents are not interested in using the school to educate their children; they are only interested in a babysitting service. teachers are not babysitters; they are professionals with a college degree. they are not the first teachers in a child's life; the parents are and the teacher's job is to basically educate. these type of parents should have never had children.

I got up this morning, shoveled the walk, shoveled the driveway, and went to work. Didnt fall once and no one had done a fucking thing to help me.

I went out last night after supper and cleared my walkway, driveway, and car. Didn't need to clean the car really since I take the bus but still did it anyway. Heard we got a 2-hour delay so I slept in 2 hours later, got ready, and walked to the bus stop. I made myself prepare but I will say that THEY SHOULD HAVE KEPT THE GOV'T CLOSED!!!! THESE SNOT NOSE LITTLE KIDS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS IN STORE FOR THEM WHEN THEY ARE NO LONGER IN SCHOOL! LIFE IS GOING TO KICK THEIR ASS! Government still should have closed. My office is empty and I am stupid enough to come in.
