Given that you'll be working in Centreville, I think just going to the south side of Manassas city where you'll find the Gerogetown South community. It is within walking distance of Manassas city, and there's a lot of culture there, too. The home prices are quite reasonable - but they are townhomes and not any single family homes or apartments are in that particular community.
There's even an added bonus. In the past, there was a police substation located within that community due to all the drug deals. I'm not sure of the status today regarding the police presence to that degree, nor do I know if drugs are that big of an issue in the community at this point in time.
