Why did the area west of Fair Oaks Mall change from Chantilly to Fairfax a few years ago?

I understood the Greenbriar area was always Fairfax.

A friend lived off of Lees Corner Rd. south of 50 27 years ago, and that was Chantilly then.

Nothing has changed.

Did you know Chantilly extends into Loudoun County as well? Chantilly is in two counties, depends on which zip code you have.

I know it's not the most reliable source, but Wikipedia mentions parts of Chantilly being split off sometime after the 2000 Census to create new CDPs. Maybe that's the only answer we have. When you type area addresses into Google it initially suggests Chantilly as the location. Not to mention Chantilly High is right there. Why move more people into Fairfax zips? A great mystery of the 2000s.

Yeah, it's weird. Greenbriar shopping center and the apartments right next to Chantilly High School are officially in Fairfax, but Chantilly High School is officially in Chantilly. All 3 properties are on the east side of Stringfellow Road and on the south side of 50. Just think they said Chantilly High School could say it's in Chantilly because its name wouldn't make sense if it was in Fairfax.

It makes perfect senses.. the dividing line has to be somewhere. One side of 50 is Ashburn the other is Chantilly, one side of Gun Spring Rd. is Aldie, the other is Chantilly. Welcome to life.

He was explaining that they made a small cut out for Chantilly High to stay in Chantilly when the adjacent properties on that side of the road were all readdressed as Fairfax sometime in the last 10 years.
