A woman was charged with hit and run after fleeing from Fairfax County police Wednesday.
A police officer was conducting a traffic stop around 8:30 a.m. on a 2011 Ford Focus at the intersection of Braddock Road and Guinea Road near the Burke/Fairfax border when the driver suddenly drove off, according to a crime report from the Fairfax County Police Department.
The officer pursued the vehicle and witnessed the car hit a mailbox on Burke Station Road, the report states. The officer eventually stopped the vehicle in the 4700 block of Gainsborough Drive.
A 10-year-old child who was in the car with the woman was not injured.
