Does anyone know when the silver line is going to start service? It looks like it's finished.

Tysons Engineer knows everything about the silver line.

The contractors will turn the Silver Line over to WMATA once the last of the work is completed and the system is certified safe and fully functional. WMATA will then choose the starting date for revenue service. Too soon even to guess still.

I couple of nights ago I noticed the lights were totally off at the station, but they were back on again last night. Did they hand over the keys?

I just hope they get some good equipment to clear snow from the tracks.

There is a lot of work yet to do. THe Orange Line was closed this past weekend between Vienna and East Fall Church. That was for testing of signals on the Silver Line and between the Silver Line and the Orange Line. There are hundreds of such last-minute checks and inspections yet to do with each one having some potetnial for delays.

It was delayed again until March. And I'd wager will be delayed a few more times before all is said and done.

Entirely bogus. There are no dates yet that could be pushed back. Contractors aren't sure yet when they will turn the system over to WMATA and WMATA doesn't have any contingent dates set for the start of revenue service. If you want some certainty here, you can be certain that this windup phase will include a lot of lane- and road-closures as the temporary ramps and roadways are torn up and the final road configurations are put in place.

Oh, and I'm guessing your understanmding of unions would be just as deeply flawed and incomplete as your understanding of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.

Metro has delayed the opening due to the fact that the extra snow removal equipment as yet to arrive.

We already had this discussion on another thread. Early January in 2014. There's alot of work that needs to be done and still tested successfully. Remember that test a few weeks ago when it derailed?

Metro does not control the project yet. Nothing can happen on their end until MWAA and Dulles Transit Partners sign off and transfer control. WMATA meanwhile purchased the necesary snow removal equipment for the Silver Line and its stations last January.

It is confirmation of exactly what the informed people here have been posting all along. There is a lot of work and testing yet to be done, much of which includes potential for delays. The contractor has not yet established a date for turning the system over to WMATA and WMATA does not yet have contingent dates for beginning revenue service. How mnay times do people need to be told that?

The poster above said it was delayed until March and the article said it may be delayed until Spring 2014. Which is basically March or later. So WTF are you talking about?

If -- as seems quite likely at this point -- you are simply not able to follow along with and comprehend the reporting in the WJLA piece and elsehwere, that's too bad for you. The facts are still the facts. There are no relevant dates that have been set by anyone for anything. Uneducated and irresponsible people may choose to spin that into whatever sort of nonsense they like, but it will all still be completely meaningless. Fall for that if you've a mind to, but those with much of a mind will not be joining you.

This is a serious subject only for serious minds like "Clear the Track"

This is time to stand back and be serious.

I mean it this time - Serious.

It was apparent the day that MWAA was given the project that they could not keep it on time or within budget.

WMATA is quietly keeping a list of the known cracks and other problems that they cannot officially address with MWAA until MWAA says it's ready.

This is going to become very messy early in 2014, well before the politicians take the first ceremonial ride.

If you don't actually have anything to contribute, don't bother trying to. The facts are out there and they have been reported. Nobody said you had to like them.

LOL! Neither MWAA nor WMATA is doing the project. Dulles Transit Partners -- a consortium of private-sector transit construction contractors -- is.

The system will not be put into the operational hands of WMATA until all of the problems detected by all of the relevant tests and analyses have been resolved. No one can yet say when that will actually be.

Yes of course, and we are certain to have hyperinflation just like Zimbabwe starting any day now as well. Buy gold!

Whether dates have been set officially, unofficially or something less, there is still the anticipation that it will happen at some point in time. Outside of the law the difference between a deadline being missed and the anticipated start date being pushed back to a later date is a matter of semantics.
