Old Town Pet Resort

when I boarded my dog at this "5 star" pet resort I expected amazing care and concern for my 1 1/2 yr old lab. What I got back was a sick dog. 2 days in boarding and his 3rd day in Doggy daycare was over 200.00. They don't allow dogs to stay there without shots and physicals. My dog had both but still got sick.

I'm sure I signed something that said if you kill my dog your not responsible.

After a 200.00 visit to the vet with 14 days of antibiotics I called the old town pet resort and spoke with a manager with assurance that she would talk to the powers that be and let them know and get back to me. She also informed me that 3 pets in 3wks had come down with the same illness..in the same breath she reassured me that they do EVERY thing that they can to prevent this sort of thing.

Needless to say I never got a call back..I did call them back to ask what they were going to do to make me feel a little better about my dogs illness..I was told that i could come back any time with a free upgrade into their luxury suits.

Do you really think I'm going to bring my dog back?? I think not..

over the years, we have tried several boarding facilities and finally just gave up. We have a very reliable family friend who housesits/dog sits for us when we travel and it is so much easier on the pets. Plus, having someone on the property gives us piece of mind, etc. Try to find a reliable pet sitter. Even if they charge the same amount, at least your pet(s) will be at home.

Now, all this said, I work with people who use Old Town Pet Resort and seem to think it's great. These same people spend ridiculous amounts of money, in my opinion, on things such as home food delivery of cut up veggies/fruit, so maybe they just like feeling catered to - whatever.

"I did call them back to ask what they were going to do to make me feel a little better about my dogs illness.."

Frankly, you sound more concerned about the money than your dog's health. You clearly won't be happy until they give you a full refund and pay your vet bills - plus a little something extra to shut you up.

Shit happens. Deal with it.

Euthanize the dog and get a cat. When you go away, leave out big bowls of water, food and an extra litter pan.

Not for $200 for a vet bill and the cost for boarding my dog it doesn't. Just because you're a C-class pussy who takes it in the ass, doesn't me I have to. I may be an asshole, but I'm not a fool.

You voluntarily walk around picking up the shit of an inferior species and you claim not to be a fool? Yeah right.

I don't know how you expect a boarding facility to guarantee that the animals have no hidden illnesses. When you go to the grocery and the cashier has a cold, do you blame the grocery if you get a cold?

Classy. Real classy.

Indeed you are.

I disagree. You take your dog to a 'pet resort'.

Even the best boarding kennels have problems. I use to board with Dulles Gateway Kennels in Chantilly owned by Pender in Fairfax. Everytime when I picked up my pup, he was always sick...next stop Pender Vet with a $500 plus bill...vicious cycle. Basically our pets become totally distressed when put in a kennel along with whatever parasites they pickup while being confined to a small area. Best bet is to have your pet travel with you, but not on an airplane. Don't send your pet to someone's house but have them come to your home, as most pets will try to runaway to return home. I have used Dogtopia in Chantilly, free indoor range, without illness. I'm sure it depends on the dog. Happy travels and good luck!

If you care about your stupid sickly dog so much, get someone to come to your house to care for them. Stop whining about your vet bills, you fucking pussy.

If you want an ass kicking by me, just ask? That's something I'll give you for free.

Unless you're into ass-kicking tiny middle-aged women (and you probably are)...I don't think so.

My vet's office confirmed that there is some kind of canine virus going around which has sickened a lot of dogs, and affected a lot of places. Most never saw it coming from what I understand.

Yes, you're right. The county even had to stop taking in dogs at the Animal Shelter until it cleared up.

The option has been mentioned a few times, but in-home care is great. Now, we have cats which is completely different, but have used an in-home service the last 4 years when going out of town. We did board them at Old Town when we moved, and they were fairly content there, but we actually save money with the in-home care and there is little chance of them getting sick.

Pro tip: When posting a pic of your pretend "wife," it is probably best not to use a pic of a married Bollywood star.

So, yeah, you're a raging homo.

County Animal Shelter: Canine Pneumovirus, Not Influenza
http://fairfaxcity.patch.com/groups/around-town/p/fairfax-county-animal-shelter-offers-more-info-on-canine-influenza

A representative from the Fairfax County Animal Shelter says what appeared to be canine influenza in some dogs in July was actually pneumovirus.

In response to the news that some cases of canine influenza have been reported in Fairfax County, Kristen Auerbach of the Fairfax County Shelter offered the following additional information to local dog owners.

"On July 26, 2013, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter suspended the intake of dogs because of a suspected outbreak of canine influenza.

About a dozen dogs had fallen sick with an unidentified upper respiratory illness, and one dog died.

All sick and exposed animals were tested. Several tested positive for canine pneumovirus, but all dogs tested negative for canine influenza.

Pneumovirus is a serious, contagious illness, but it is not as deadly as canine influenza.

All of the sick and exposed dogs were cleared by the veterinarian in mid-August ,and there have been no other cases of canine upper respiratory illness in the shelter since then.

Animals that are housed in a group setting, just like people, can be more susceptible to communicable illnesses. At the shelter, we isolate animals immediately when we notice symptoms of any illness, and we work closely with our veterinarians to diagnose the illness and nurse animals back to good health quickly."
