Income Tax Preparer Charged with Fraud

Detectives arrested 40-year-old Thuy Tien Le of 12808 Madeley Court in Fairfax in connection with an investigation involving fraudulent preparation and submission of income tax return documents.

The investigation began in early July of this year when the police department received a report from a resident that Le, owner of T2 Advantage LLC, a tax preparation company, had prepared their income taxes. The victim received the prepared documents including a statement indicating exactly what their federal and state refunds would be. Shortly thereafter, the victim was in the process of refinancing their mortgage and discovered that the tax documents the mortgage company obtained from the Internal Revenue Service were different than the ones Le provided to the victim. Detectives, working with special agents of the IRS, determined that Le was allegedly altering the tax documents prior to submitting them to the IRS; increasing the amount of the refunds and having those proceeds electronically deposited into an account other than the victims.

Le was arrested on Tuesday, August 6. She was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with one count of money laundering, one count of obtaining money by false pretense, and two counts of identity theft with intent to defraud.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible. Detectives would like to hear from anyone who believes they might have been a victim of this type of fraud.
