Is it legal to open carry a weapon when answering your door? I see no reason why not yet have been told that I could be charged for assault for "...the threat or perceived threat of harm. Legally, it can be defined as the intent to harm or cause offensive contact"

Just do what "Shotgun" Joe Biden says, don't even answer it, just fire a double-barrel blast through the front door!

If you are open carrying in a holster, no problem in or out of the house. If you are holding it in your hand, could depend. Kind of like being naked in your house making coffee in front of a window people can see into from outside. But I don't know what the law says.

And Biden doesn't say fire a blast through the door, he says fire in the air where the shot can rain down on innocent people.

Why would you answer the door WITHOUT a gun?

And circumcise that rascal!

Biden's quote was as follows:
--
I said, “Well, you know, my shotgun will do better for you than your AR-15, because you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door.” Most people can handle a shotgun a hell of a lot better than they can a semi-automatic weapon in terms of both their aim and in terms of their ability to deter people coming. We can argue whether that’s true or not, but it is no argument that, for example, a shotgun could do the same job of protecting you.

if you really don't know the answer to this, read the Virginia statutes on firearms (the State Police site is a good starting point - http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms.shtm) and then go take a class or two from an NRA certified instructor.

You don't need a gun. Just throw open the door and show them your gross pensis. Scary!
