I travel a lot for work. I always tell people that I live in Virginia. I used to say DC. But they always assume I am a federal employee and want to bitch. I hate Virginia and DC. But saying Virginia seems to be the lesser of two evils.

Just tell whoever that you are from DC. Most people not from here would consider the suburbs part of DC anyway. Look at a city like New York or Chicago... the city sprawls far from the urban core, but, that area is Chicago or New York to an outsider.

The burgeoning acronym seems to be getting a lot of play in the black community. I hear it on the radio on the rare occasion that I scan by a DC hip hop station and pause...and that is now my connection with the phrase - an inner city acronym for folks who feel left out every time they hear some idiot say "the ATL".
It's a ridiculous acronym, adopting the worst possible ordering of those three letters...and ending up with the same acronym as one of the most despised departments in each of the 50 states. Morons.
It's also ridiculous, since there is no fucking DMV. There is DC and the shithole parts of Maryland connected to it...with coincident levels of crime...and that area stands alone. Montgomery County has little in common with that inner city area...and Northern Virginia has its own identity that is distinct from both DC and bed-wetting Montgomery.

- Curremntly the second-highest median household income of any local jurisdiction in the nation (second only to Loudoun...also in Nova)
- Highest life expectancy for males in the nation (81.1 years)
- Annual corporate revenue of 100 billion dollars
- Home to numerous IT companies, including Amazon and Google.
- Higher concentration of high-tech workers than Silicon Valley
- HQ location for literally thousands of IT companies...1200 IT companies headquartered in Tyson’s Corner alone.
