University Mall Theatre

I know the theatre is old, falling apart, and that the entire concession and ticket process is archaic - but am I the only one who actually enjoys watching movies there? I've seen three movies their over the past year and I've enjoyed the experience much better than AMC Tysons or Fairfax Corner. Maybe because it's a more laid back friendlier audience, maybe because its more family friendly. Regardless, I hope they keep the theatre open even after the renovations.

I like the place, not full of loudmouths talking on cell phones and no kids running up and down the aisles

It's a relaxed house, and it's also a good place to catch the movies you might have missed when they first came to town a couple months ago. And it's only $4, with senior and student discounts. But they still show actual films (you remember, where light shines through thin plastic), and apparently all the studios are rapidly converting to digital projection. (They don't have to ship film cans, just transmit a video stream.) It may have to close if they can't afford to convert their equipment, which will be mega-big bucks.

Best movie prices in the county. Especially summer afternoons. Great Rocky Horror performances. get to see the movies I missed when they were in the expensive theatres.

And the owner is super involved in supporting community groups and Robinson HS.

Its a dump but its our dump :P We bring the kids there all the time. Once the lights are off its the same as any other theater more or less. It runs about 1/3 the price of the rip off AMC and Regal joints. Bonus they let you refill your large popcorn for a buck. The vendor actually told me this and directed me to the candy bags so I could empty one large into the bags then get a refill for a grand total of 7 bucks as opposed to Regal $18 for the same amount of popcorn.

1. Netflix = $8
2. Netflix on 65" TV. Better quality than big screen.
3. Don't have to drive and sit in possibly dirty seats
4. Popcorn and beverages much cheaper at home
5. Can watch in peaceful bliss
6. Can recline the sectionals
7. Can stop the movie to take a bathroom break
8. Can watch the movie anytime it pleases
9. 7.1 digital surround sound

AND THE BEST REASON OVERALL.................

10. CAN GET A BLOWJOB FROM MY LADY ANYTIME WITHOUT FEAR OF GETTING CAUGHT!!!!

I go there all the time. The popcorn is popped earlier so not the freshest but prices are great. Tuesday's $2 with $2 popcorn and $2 drink. Can't find that anywhere. And refills too for a small price.

Now that the entire University Mall will be redeveloped to an upscale yuppie paradise you can soon expect movie and drink prices to be in line with other local theaters.

I remember seeing Fast Times at Ridgemont High there when I was 12 or 13. No one there gave a shit about a kid going to see a rated R movie. I totally saw boobies!
