As the number of DWIs in the Sully District rise, police will show local residents how to spot indicators of drunk and impaired drivers with the first-ever "DUI Watch" training on Wednesday at the police station, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly.

DWI-related crashes have increased by 16 percent from 2011 to 2012 in the Sully District, with 98 alcohol-related crashes in 2012, police said in a news release.

The program will show neighbors how to become more involved in their communities by spotting and reporting suspected drunk or impaired drivers. The program will train volunteers on early recognition of impaired driving, its dangers, and its impact.

“Many Fairfax County residents already help police by reporting suspicious persons and vehicles in their neighborhoods through their Neighborhood Watch,” Captain Ed O’Carroll, commander of the Sully District Station, said in a press release. “We’re asking them to go one step further to get involved in reducing the number of intoxicated drivers on the roadways by calling in suspected impaired drivers when they’re out on the roadways.”

The training session is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Sully District Station. Pre-registration is recommended but not required. Anyone who wants to register or has questions may contact Officer Tara Fruecht at 703-814-7018 or FCPDSulCPO@Fairfaxcounty.gov.

Yeah, how about holding a "Texting Watch" meeting to catch the real dangerous motherfuckers that are driving around here...no question, I'd rather deal with a random drunk than thousands of asshats texting and LOLing as they are supposed to be driving.
