Yes, they are out of control. Under a newly passed law you can't store anything outside unless it is in an enclosed space and not visible from the 1st floor of any nearby house.

If you'd follow the link you'd see that the changes requested come from County employees, not County residents and voters. This is not about self-governance but rather about a big bureaucracy becoming bigger and wasting more money.

If you hunt around the Fairfax County website you'll find that almost every little office publishes a newsletter. These newsletters details all sorts of activities and events that have nothing to do with providing services to residents/taxpayers.

If a private company did this, they'd end up answering to their shareholders. Here, however, the County government does what it pleases, though maybe not for too much longer.

Sounds like they want to enforce more zoning covenants with fines... What is the problem? They have a notification period. If fined you have 10 days to cure before being fined again.

Maybe once slobs with crap all over their yards start getting fined our County will be a better place to live.

You nailed it, One gigantic HOA.

My neighbors are 80 or 90. County wants them to clear out a bunch of stuff behind their house, the claim is that it can be seen from a nearby house.

A social worker came out and told them the County would do the work as they are on social security. The hitch is that the county is backlogged 8 months due to the requirements of some new laws.

The zoning people were back out last week, said that they will not wait 8 months, it is these people's problems. So the rest of the neighbors are going to have to do it.

The county needs to coordinate with itself. If some of us weren't willing to help the zoning department would get these people arrested.

That's a completely stupid rule. I can understand an HOA or condo association being allowed to enforce something like that,but if people choose to live in areas that don't have one than it should be up to them what they do with their property (within reason) and likewise they should tolerate what others do on theirs.

It's not unique to Fairfax though-Arlington, Alexandria and DC are fascists too.

what would you do if your next door neighbor was a hoarder who kept moving his fence so he could hoard on your property? what would you do if you saw 15 cars parked in a single family driveway and on the lawn? what would you do if you found 90 cats in a house? it costs money to take people to court, to pay for cleanup assistance, to pay dump fees, to move the fence back over to the property line. do you want your taxes to go up again to pay to clean up this stuff? why not levy the fine on the person committing the infraction.

If this is your biggest worry, oh my goodness. Sharon stinks, but as much as I don't like admitting to it, she's probably "Board Supervisor for Life" type of material. Look at her voting counts each election.
