The fastest-growing paddle sport, stand up paddleboarding (SUP) has hit the shores of Reston! Last night a handful of “surfers” showed up at the Lake Audubon boat ramp for the first informal Thursday night paddle of the season.
Although SUP is an individual sport, these sessions will enable like-minded Restonians to connect and help each other progress. In addition, they are a great way for individuals interested in learning more about SUP to make connections and get some guidance.
As the weather gets warmer and more paddlers join in there may be the opportunity to break into specific disciplines and interests ranging from yoga to racing techniques.
SUP is a fun, easy way to enjoy Lake Audubon and many other local bodies of water from ocean surf to lakes and rivers. With a minimum amount of equipment, you can paddle anything. Come on out and join in or watch the action every Thursday night at 6 p.m. Lake Audubon Boat Ramp weather permitting.
