I commit a Felonly in January in Fairfax country. I robbed a house. I was high at the time and I wasn't thiking that why did that. I was never caught. How does one know if the police is still investing a crime ?

Just give FPD a call, ask for an investigator, tell them your story. If you have any more details such as the address of the house that you robbed, or items that you stole, that would be helpful.

OR GET CAUGHT BY THE HOMEOWNER AND EITHER SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES OR GET YOUR SKULL CRUSHED IN WITH A BASEBALL BAT.

If it was just a smash-and-grab, no one was hurt, and the homeowners had insurance, there likely was not any actual investigation at all. There never will be either unless you manage to stir things up. You did a dumb thing. So be thankful for the good luck of having skated on that and get on with a life that will help people (including yourself) forget your one-time bit of bad judgment.

It was bad judgment on my part. all I stole was a laptop and left. It will never happen again. just wanted to know if they keep inverstigating for years after a crime was done.

You stole a laptop. Let's think about that. What if you stole someone's novel that they have been working on for three years and it was saved there. What if you stole someone's doctoral thesis that they have poured their life into? What if you stole irreplacable family pictures saved on that computer.

Nope. But you'd be surprised how many of the people you described above do. People are idiots when it comes to data storage. Why do you think there is a market for data recovery?
