Cicadas are comming

I remember the cicads came in 2004, because our high school prank was being in abouy 600 cicadas and dumping them in the fied house. It was good prank and we didn't get in trouble. we just had to clean it up at the end of the day. so why are they saying they came back from 17 years ago?

The Brood in 2004 was Brood X, which is the largest of the 17 year periodical cicadas. This year we will get Brood II which was last out in 1996. The thing that makes the Brood X so large is that it spans from New York to North Carolina and inland to Illinois and Michigan, whereas the one coming this year stays primarily on the east coast. Here in VA we only see about 4 Broods on varying cycles, the next after this year being 2016. So, we're never really out of the woods for a full 17 years.

I remember the the big brood from around 1970. Nothing has matched that in the area since. The development has taken a toll on these bugs in this area.
In 1970 Fairfax City, it was hugh swarms of these bugs and the chirping noise was constant all day.

The cicadas are free food people. In these hard economic times, I'm surprised people aren't looking forward to their arrival. I would be surprised if Obama doesn't take credit for this opportunity to feed the unemployed.
