A Springfield couple has been charged with intentionally setting a house on fire in 2008, officials said.
German Balladares, 56, and Sandra Balladares, 41, were charged Friday with burning a house and with burning a structure with intent to defraud an insurance company or other person, according to Fairfax County fire officials.
The single-family house fire occurred on June 7, 2008, at 7209 Neuman St., Springfield. A firefighter sustained a non-life threatening injury during the incident, and damage to the home was estimated at $75,000, officials said.
Fire and rescue department spokesman Dan Schmidt said that he did not know why it took so long to charge the pair, but that there was now enough evidence to bring charges.
