I'd go to the housing authority and complain. Outside of section 8's, nobody's told to live there.

I live in Reston, and I like it.

It is expensive to live here, so I don't know why fools pay all that money to live somewhere that they hate. Manassas is cheaper and likely better suited to you.

Ive driven thru Reston. Not sure why anybody would want to live there. Nothing particularly appealing about the area.

I, too, live in Reston. We moved here from Burke.

Our house is lovely, nestled on a large, wooded lot. The neighborhood is safe & quiet and the location is very convenient. There are many community amenities: Extensive biking/walking trails (plus the WO&D), multiple pools, several lakes, and a nature center. We don’t like the local elementary school, so our children attend a private school.

We’re very happy to live here. Compared to Burke, Reston is nirvana.

Which elementary school is it?

Also, how is the Reston Association treating you?

I'm in less-desirable South Reston - in one of the few areas that does not belong to the association.

Thank you. There will always be something negative you can say about any town/city/community. Those downing Reston so hard, where do you live? Noone ever answers that question. Reston is beautiful. There a crappy parts and crappy neighborhoods. Overall, it is a very nice place to live. Safer than most as well. Can't think of anywhere else I would want to raise my kids, but I do agree as far as the schools. Lord, some of these teachers need to be punched all up in their faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!!

I'm in South Reston in a non-Association area, too

The older neighborhoods in South Reston are still nice. I will drive through sometimes just to remember that FEEL. lol. I used to live on Dosinia Court across from Laural Glade. Way back, before I was in grade school. I remember living there for the most part still. Laurel Glade and Stonegate...trashy. The neighborhood I lived in was nice, single family homes. Reston is weird like that. I have never heard anything good about Hunters Woods. I live in North Reston. Close to The Town Center. My kids all went to the same elementary school I went to. Back when I was there, the teachers were awesome. Now, not so much. There are still a few good ones. All four of my kids had the same math teacher, who was a teacher there when I was there. He is a very good teacher.

I grew up in Reston. Mostly in the Lake Anne area. I love it, lots of trails and paths.

We used to live in Reston until our children were school aged and we moved to a better school district. I'm guessing that when our children have moved on, we will move back to Reston.

I myself wonder as well. I have not spent much time here, except a few times I was forced to go to Reston Towne Center.

I just thought it was a weird location and a weird area to get to.

The people that claim they live in Reston but don't belong to the association really don't live in Reston. A quick check of the county property records under Legal Description will show that you probably live in Deepwood (most of it is not all that nice) or Fox Mill Woods (fairly nice). These were both - along with the St. John Neuman church property - part of a chunk of land that never belonged to Reston.

Heck, even one of those unwanted garbage newspapers is the "Reston Connection" - and according to you they have been teasing me all this time.

So I don't really live in Reston... I now know my place. I have been living a lie all this time. I will hang my head in shame when I travel through Reston proper until I get an exit sign on the toll road that says
"RESTON (and fox mill woods, a lesser community often mistaken as RESTON), this exit" - Fuck those Deepwood scumbags, they don't get on my sign.

Now I have to change my address return labels to "Fox Mill Woods, VA"

My next door neighbor (who talks to me despite him living in Reston and my not living in Reston) got a list that included cleaning the moss off of his retaining wall. I changed the color of my house without DRB approval. I don't pay an extra tax for the Reston Community Center (but I still get discount rates because my employer is in Reston proper)

I won't tell you the name of my employer because he might get outed as hiring inferior pseudo-Reston people.

Reston isn't bad. It could be worse, you could live in Herndon.

Some parts of Herndon are nicer than Reston, but there are parts of Reston that the best parts of Herndon could never aspire to match or surpass.

I didn't live in Reston or belonged to a HOA. But the residents of Reston blew a gasket when I legally built a nice little storage shed that was Victorian in trim and color. Gave me a very hard time that it dudn't conform to their standards. Even made it to court where the judge laughed and told the HOA to mind their own business. He liked the shed and said if I ever got a contractor's licensee to contact him. Anyhow I went home and had a painters party. Few friends came over with quarts of beer and paint and we went modern impressionistic on the side facing the HOA community. Couldn't see it from my house. Moved a couple years later and new owners thought it might be good for community relations to repaint the HOA side.
The moral of the story is Reston doesn't have a sense of humor or the appreciation of fine art. Paint snobs.
