Continuing to hear bad things about this place. Looks like they keep good tabs on their own yelp.com page as well and delete bad reviews on a frequent basis to cover it all up!!! Heh.. bands better start demanding a contract or a guarantee up front.

Local talent in DC. LOL

Whatever happened to the punk scene in DC? Emo* and Riot Grrrl were created in DC, where is that type of scene today?

*Emo back then was not the same as today's pseudo-Goth/wrist-cutting Hot Topic abomination.

Well except that they are really one of the few venues in town, perhaps the only that lets in under 18.

Doesn't give them the right to screw over our local performers and offer shit service on top of it! Whatever happened to the local scene is right... musicians are going bankrupt and the " Brindley Bros." are cashing in obviously.

I don't really know what you are talking about nor do i care but as a longtime resident of Fairfax County, i assure you that there never was a local "scene". So fear not, nothing is being destroyed!

There was plenty of scene, and I consider the outer-suburbs of DC to be just as influential as the actual city (and in most cases much a part of it).

Need I remind anyone of a young Dave Grohl and where he's from?

There's a lot of musicians who say they are from the city and really aren't. Doesn't mean they aren't a part of the DC music scene in either case!

Brindley Brothers have run the place after buying it out a while back. Was more of a coffee house settings before. They went for the rock type cash-in theme and left a lot of folks behind in the process. They fund their own label out and recording studio from what I've heard too. Is that where the $ all goes? Probs.

Several bands got their start at Jammin Java such as Dave Grohl and Mercury in Summer. Unfortunately for us and fortunately for them, we lost them to LA. Mercury in Summer changed their name to "Carlton", and are HUGE there. Carlton comes back twice a year, (usually in the summer and at Xmas), because their families are from here. If you see that they are in town, get your tickets fast! They are always sold out. Awesome band - amazing talent.

Last time I was there was way back. I think I went to see my man Sam Gunderson. Miss the days we did the open mics at Lake Anne. They loved some P-Soup. lol.

Not sure where you heard this but no club with a name as stupid as “Jammin Java” existed when he was here playing with Scream. To my knowledge, it didn't even exist in the 90s.

I have to ask this, as outrageous as it may seem. Is there a guy there who sees snakes, and refers to people as banana faces? Named Bleh?

Jammin'Java Doorgal is cool imo but the brothers that's something different entirely. success go too much to one's head

JJDoorgal should try for job at 930 club although would miss her. there's an old(not age wise) JJ bartender(tattoos) I think still working at 930 club. she was nice too

Hmmm maybe 930 club makes offer for JJ and the brothers go back to Jersey and 930 club has smaller established venue to showcase smaller acts that can't fill 930 club. I think a feeder system is important to grow future talent and maybe let old time acts that can't fill big venues anymore have a place to show their artistry

and there once was a very significant local music scene even in northern Virginia and it wasn't all that long ago. land developers have no artistic sense and how important that stuff is to creating a healthy community
It's like what Isabel Allende said in recent interview on Artist's Toolbox when asked the importance of art. paraphrase "Well we've seen examples of art from even the earliest cave man periods" so there you go boring cigar smoking HD pseudo bikers

Hey Mr. Amazing You do have Rakim far above an idiot like Kanye West on your musical taste list?
Do you know the bluesman Bobby Parker? Chuck Brown is gone but Mr. Parker is still out there knock on wood.

Other than that, your post was very informative. Thanks.
