Kids and social media

My kids have reached the instagram age - middle school. Some of the postings I have seen from their classmates as I supervise/lurk are pretty shocking. Some of the ask.fm posts are basically pornographic - and I assumed the kids parents are unaware of their 7th grade daughters (and sons) being propositioned online. There also racist postings and endless hot/not lists.

I do it for my own kids (as much as I can keep up with what they use) - but there are clearly many parents who do not. Anyone else have experience with this? Does FCPS ever get involved? Not sure they should, but some of it is competely unsupervised.

My middle school child is not on those sites for a reason.

When the computer/tablet/IPhone is in MY name thay cannot access those sites.

I feel for you. It is a LONG haul these days.
