Bed Bugs

Is there an apt or condo complex in FFX City or FFX County that DOES NOT have bed bugs?

Circle Towers, at the border of FFX City, has been reported to have bed bugs (as well as many other problems).

I googled extensively, but guess I'm looking for a site of listings solely devoted to the topic.

I read the bed bugs are common in multifamily dwellings but then I read single family homes have them due to vagrant neighbors.

Meanwhile, any personal experiences or shared experiences of fam & friends?

Thanks much.

Say it isn't so!

I've read about them, but don't know any neighbors or friends who've had them.

I live in a Fairfax neighborhood of single-family homes.

How hard is it to get rid of them?

DDT has been banned in this country, unfortunately or fortunately.

Bed bugs are hard to get rid of, in multi-family units such as apts or condos.

They hide in any tiny crack or crevice available, & also lay eggs there.

There are "organic" sprays available at some places, like Home Depot, or online, such as Amazon.com.

When professional pest control services are hired, they set off a "bomb" of pesticide, after having the closets & drawer contents removed & bagged.

The occupant(s) aren't allowed back in the residence for at least 3 hours.

It's also extremely expensive. For a 1 bedroom apt, it's $975, by Terminix.

Bed bugs are also epidemic in motels & hotels, even upscale ones.

Wondering if any City/County complexes have a reported problem.

Some high end hotels will actually have dogs sniffing your lugged to protect against a bed bug problem. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/11/garden/11bedbug.html?pagewanted=all

You can also heat up your house to about 120-130 and that will kill bed bugs, i think this is the safest and best way to get rid of them. If i ever go them this is what i would do.

Excellent NYT article, thanks. Says heat-treatment for a house costs $5,000!!! I did hear it is also very very expensive for apts, but don't know the cost. I heard some local pest controls use canine detection. NYC is a hopeless goner, even the Empire State Bldg is infested, but Philly is #1 in the nation. And yes, Circle Towers is a hellhole, & has slacker management, Rosenthal Property Management. BTW,it isn't possible to heat up a house to 120-130 on your own, is it? Can you tell I'm collecting data, lol?

The NYT article says that bed bugs don't cause disease. But...I read elsewhere that their saliva can cause an allergic reaction for some people.

So... If I'm not allergic, live and let live?

Whoa... Noooooo! Their bites, which often appear in a straight line of 3, dubbed "breakfast, lunch & dinner" itch like a b*tch, & if you scratch them, you can develop an infection. They're blood-sucking parasites that crawl all over you while you're asleep! Reminds me of my date last night, Kidding! So, live & let die! Just say no! :)

Stayed in what appeared to be a very nice hotel last week and woke up with bites all over both ankles and feet that itched like hell. Sure enough - bed bug bites.

Hardest part was not giving in to the urge to scratch the itch. They still itch a week later. Disgusting. I feel like I was raped and violated.

Yup, violated, exactly! They like ankles & feet. Arms, too. I guess b/c they're usually exposed from out of the blankets. They say not to unpack your luggage until you've tried a complete inspection of your hotel room - mattresses, especially the mattress seams, linens, drawers, etc. The little sh*ts also love old wooden furniture (lots of tiny crevices) & also curtains! There are countless topicals to try, Caladryl (a clear calamine lotion), rubbing alcohol (but don't rub it in, just dab),vinegar, Neosporin, Gold Bond anti-itch cream, tea tree oil 20% strength.I read they're easy to see, being dark & the size of an apple seed.

Having bed bugs is no big deal...just don't let them bite.
