Ticket for expired regist -- can I contest it?
Posted by: the_OP ()

Timeline:
11th - Realized my plates were expired.
12th - Tried renewing them online, oh yeah, I forgot I need an emissions inspection, no big deal.
Sat 14th - Got emissions test, passed.
Sun 15th - Left town til Friday.
Fri 20th - came home and saw a ticket on my windshield. My car was parked on "private" property - apartment complex parking lot.
Sat 21st - renewed registration online.

the reason for the gap between emissions test and renewing registration is due to being on travel, packing, etc. I could have done it online, but had so much going on.

Anyone else gotten out of one of these?

You're not getting out of it because it's on "private property", cops can issue tickets for any vehicle violations if they're there to see it.

If you had renewed before the ticket was given to you, you might have been able to convince the judge at the hearing to wipe it. Since you didn't, you're stuck. Just pay the fine and remember to get your stuff taken care of on time in the future.

Sell your car. You can't handle the resposibility.

I guess you should have renewed it online the day it passed emissions... you probably would not have gotten the ticket, and if you did the renewal confirmation would probably have been enough.

You can contest any ticket as long as you aren't on the US drone death list, you can bring your paperwork and tell the judge your story, but he will likely ask why you ignored the DMV reminder that tells you registrationis coming due and emissions test will be required. They come a couple months in advance.

When I was away at school I let my plates expire. Got a ticket from FFXPD. Cop said I could fax confirmation of compliance to FFXPD before my court date.

Done and done.

If you bring confirmation of compliance to court, are polite and respectfully dressed and don't have a rediculous record the judge will forgive the ticket.

Go to court, show the judge you renewed and it will get dropped nine times out of ten.

What Gotocourt said.

You can also try contacting the officer who wrote the ticket to see if he will drop it if you come by and show him proof that the tags were renewed.

Hate to break it to you OP but Apartment/Condo complexes are not free from management ensuring ALL residents and their vehicles are up to date with proper registration and safety inspections.

Pay the ticket and STFU. It took you longer to tell us your sorry ass story then if you just paid the fine.

Did your mom breast feed you till you were eight? Holy shit grow a set of balls!

No. Because I get my car reregistered when I am supposed to. I find it amazing how that simple act keeps me from getting tickets.
