Is it just me or is racing (automobile racing) just a complete waste of gasoline? All they do is go around in a f@$%ing circle for like 4 hours. I do respect the dangerousness of it and all but it's boring as hell except for the crashes. not even counting all the gas thats used to get to all these different races all over the world. Why do these races have to go on forever too? I would like to mention that I'm not an advocate against drilling for oil or have any crazy agenda, the thought just came to me about what a waste racing is and how pointless it all is. Not to mention people die doing this crap! Just think about how much oil and gas is used EVERYDAY all over the world while we know that there is only so much we can take from the earth. random thoughts

I see your point but as I understand it huge advances in safety and fuel conservation have been discovered in the quest for better racing. The lessons learned on the race track have been used by the entire automotive industry.
Overall automotive racing has saved more fuel than any other sport or event in the world. Compare that to the NFL where millions of miles of travel by fans, teams and media on our highways and in the air has resulted in no fuel savings whatsoever. Lots of folks jobs depend on the NFL however.
