Victims' Father Speaks About Springfield Triple-Homicide Case
Thu December 18, 2008 - SPRINGFIELD, Va. from ABC 7 News -
In November, three men were stabbed to death at a home in Springfield. Now, the father of two of the victims, is speaking out about losing his sons.
Chris Strope faces a loss few can comprehend -- the murder of his two sons. On Nov. 19, Terry and Ryan Strope were found stabbed to death in their Springfield home. Their friend, Andy Yelicie who escaped and stumbled across the street bleeding, also died.
"My boys didn't deserve anything like this," Strope said. "This was not a mild-mannered crime scene -- this was a dastardly crime... justice has to prevail," he said.
Strope, a former Arlington County police officer, said he looked at the crime in two different ways. "I treated it as a crime scene... but I also treated it as my boys," Strope said.
Thirty-eight-year-old year old Terry Strope worked in a concrete business with his father. His brother, 26-year-old Ryan Strope, worked as an IT administrator.
The brothers not only lived together, but we're also best friends. They had a passion for their two dogs, the Redskins, and their family.
"Both boys were good sons to me, their mother, their sister -- everybody," Strope said.
Fairfax County police say all three men were killed at the same time in what they believe to be a ruthless, but not random act. Still, the homicides remain a mystery, as police have yet to arrest any suspects.
"Those victims were targeted for a particular reason... what that reason would be, I don't know, ," said Officer Shelley Broderick of the Fairfax County Police Department.
As both a parent and a former police officer, Strope believes if the killer or killers are not caught soon, they will strike again.
"They'll do it to somebody else -- they'll do it to their family members if they're willing to do something like this," he said.
