Sources say one of the women suffered a broken arm.
Two women assaulted in Alexandria after responding to apartment ad
Responding to an online ad for an apartment for rent, two women were attacked after they were lured to an abandoned building along Mill Road just outside of Old Town Alexandria. The ad listed a 3-bedroom apartment for $250 per month.
Once inside, police say the man attacked—physically assaulting both women. It happened Tuesday evening just after 6 p.m.
Wednesday, the investigation focused on one man and he agreed to speak with ABC7.
Police got calls Wednesday morning when they say a man matching the description of a red-haired suspect with a ponytail showed up near an abandoned building near Old Town.
"Police were giving me trouble, that I was not allowed on this property," says the man who told us his name is Click.
Click says he was handcuffed and put in a police car while they ran a background check on him.
Click told ABC7 News that he watches the building on a part-time basis for the owner and has a key.
"It wasn't immediately clear because I didn't have the documents that I am in charge of the property."
Police released him pending further investigation.
Wednesday afternoon, men and women in suits--who wouldn't identify themselves--put up 'no trespassing' signs and changed the locks .
Sources say the owner of the building lives in California. The property management company was on site.
ABC7 asked for verification of Click's claim that he works there and has a key, but received no comment.
The women were able to escape, but sources say one suffered a broken arm. As officers and canines combed the building for the suspect, Alexandria Police say they are still working to piece together a motive.
"Everyone has a different motive for everything. We don’t know what this was, but it is a highly unusual case,” said Alexandria Spokesperson Ashley Hildebrandt.
The suspect is described as white, 20 to 30 years old, with a tall, thin build. He had red colored hair pulled back into a ponytail. He was wearing a long black coat with black pants, according to Alexandria Police.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section of the Alexandria Police Department at 703.746.6711.
