11 arrests made for underage alcohol sales during Alexandria operation

Nearly one-third of businesses inspected during a compliance check in Alexandria on Thursday sold alcoholic beverages to underage informants, authorities said.
During the checks, Alexandria police sent confidential informants who were over 18 but under 21 to buy alcoholic beverages from the businesses. If clerks asked for identification, the informants showed them legal documents with their correct ages, officials said.
Officers checked 35 stores and made 11 arrests for the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages to a person under the age of 21, according to department officials.
The businesses that sold alcohol to minors included two CVSs, three 7-Elevens and two Rite-Aids, officials said.
