Affordable Oil Change places that are reliable and wont mess up your car

Where is the best place to take a car to get an oil change? I am thinking about going to Jiffy Lube but I have read plenty of reviews about how they don't do a good job and have actually ruined cars even more. I also need to get my tires realligned and I want an affordable place to do that as well.

Let me know any suggestions and if you can the prices of an oil change and tire allignment as well.

Thanks

my experience with the jiffy lube has been the shit

did not replace screw back properly in the oil pan. got home saw puddle under car and took back to fairfax city jiffy lube. they acted like little shits about it. I remained very calm(my high blood pressure don't you know) and axed them to tighten it properly at no charge

my brother went on a 300 mile trip . had the oil and filter changed at a jiffy lube the very morning he left. by shear luck the oil filter did not fall off till he reached his destination

jiffy lube is swell

Saying something "is the shit" means it was good. I think you mean "is shit" although I am smart enough that I caught on to your sarcasm from the rest of your post, other people here are dense and may not be able to. But yes. Jippy lubes jips people. Stay away.

I do beleive my use of "little shits" was correct

a wise person, not me, once said sarcasm is very hard to understand on the internets

Is Meinekiee reliable though? how much is a typical oil change from them? I hate all these mechanic websites because they never post their prices.

the Valvoline oil change place on Fairfax Blvd just East of Rebel Run is an option. You don't even get out of your car, just drive up and watch the pseudo military types bark out orders and repeat orders back to each other.

Somewhat entertaining experience, can't remember whether the cost is same or little higher than Jiffy Lube. They haven't pressed too hard on upselling air filters, wipers, and other crap. And they haven't done anything stupid to my car yet.

I go to the dealership now, but for the past couple of years I would go to 'Lube-It' across from the Xsport in Merrifield. I can't think of a single bad experience I've ever had.

The Valvoline Quick Change on Fairfax Blvd. across the street from PJ Skidoos. It's around $35.00 for a basic change. It's quick, they're good and you don't even have to get out of your car. I like how they double check with each other that things are put back the way they should be.

Grow a pair and do it yourself. Dealerships overcharge like crazy. Go on yelp and find a good independent shop for basic maintenance.

The dealer does one of our cars for free.

If you want an independent shop, I've found Landmark Towers Sunoco to be reliable and reasonably-priced. It's at the corner of Stevenson and Whiting across the street from where Bennigan's and El Torito used to be. The head mechanic is named Kent Taylor.

I don't know any dealer that does anything "for free".

Maybe you told them Bumper sent ya and they gave you a freebie? :)

The stealerships always live up to their names. Most independent places that have coupons for low priced oil changes do so just to lure you into their shops. Once there, they draft up a nice long list of things that you "need" to get fixed. Have been doing oil changes and other light repairs on my own for years and haven't looked back since.

Yes but, I'm Crystal Koons...so why would I tell you to go somewhere other a dealership for service?

It's really not all that hard to do yourself. It takes maybe like 30 minutes if you know what you are doing and an hour or so if not. Get yourself some ramps or jack stands, the correct oil (should be in the owners manual), the correct filter (you can get them at Advanced Auto Parts), and maybe a filter wrench. Generally filters are supposed to be on "hand tight" meaning should be as tight as your hand can screw it on. Read up on some how to's over the internet and you're all set.

Well, I did buy the car from them back in 2004, so that's a major piece of business. There is still no charge for the oil changes.

Saying all jiffy lubes are bad/do poor work is like saying all blacks are criminals or all Asians can't drive. I have had me vehicle serviced at jiffy lube many times. Great customer service and relatively fast.

It will always be cheaper if you do it yourself

I agree.

Save yourself the money, do it yourself. It's not a difficult job at all once you learn how to do it. I recommend Walmart for the oil & filter, best prices, and you can usually get the big jug rather than buying multiple quart containers and save even more. AdvancedAuto, Fairfax Auto Part, PepBoys, all are good places though if you'd prefer an auto parts place.

I take mine to the dealership. I went 2 weeks ago and it was 40 bucks with a 10 dollar rebate, so $30 total. If I show up first thing Sat. morning, I can be out in less than an hour most of the time.

On top of that, my car takes 8.8 quarts of oil, so at Jiffy Lube, which I did once, I would be paying for 4 quarts over the 5 quart limit they have on the standard service. I have a Pontiac G8 and it cost me ~$50 for an oil change. Also, in their system, they 8 quarts vs. the 8.8 quarts my car takes. Their system doesn't reflect the change in V8 oil pan sizes for the 09 models.
