Stan Barry for Sheriff
Posted by: Average Voter ()
Date: October 26, 2011 12:34AM

Stan Barry came to tonight's debate at Great Falls Grange -- his opponent did not -- and answered all questions in a very creditable manner. He seemed professional, and he completely destroyed the "undeserved pension" cricitism. Looks as though this one is in the books.

Does anyone really think Cooper would do well in a debate? Cooper: 25 year law enforcement professional. Barry: 12 year politician. Cooper would get killed. I think everyone knows that. I'm not sure what a debate would prove. Both candidates have put the issues on the table. Let the voters decide.

Bill Cooper is a gutless coward trying to hide behind the republican committee. He and his "advisors" own these lies being told about the sheriff. Gutless cowards, all of them.

If it doesn't fit you must acquit.
If it doesn't fit you must acquit.

If you say something enough it makes it true. Right?

What lies are you talking about? Is it true that Stan Barry drove his wife to the point of committing suicide about 10 years ago? That's pretty sad stuff.

Come on Dude! Let the Barry folks continue to stoop to these levels. Coopers folks have kept things pretty clean throughout this election because they've got integrity and honesty on their side. You're going to win this thing without hitting below the belt.

Sheriff Candidate Cooper violating my privacy
Posted by: Sheriffs Office Employee ()
Date: October 28, 2011 05:19PM

Can someone tell me how retired Sheriff's Employee Bill Cooper gained access to my private home address? I work in the Sheriffs Department, in the jail. I only provide my home address when legally required to do so. I have received campaign mail from Coopers campaign addressed to me as a Sheriffs Office employee. I did not give anyone permission to give my private address to Bill Cooper. He and someone in the Sheriffs Office has violated county policy and my legal right to privacy. Maybe I should check my credit report in case he has my social security number also. Cooper needs to stop claiming he is earning anyones trust and confidence. I am pissed and I know a lot of other deputies are upset about this as well. Well???

So is Stan returning his drop money to the county or just waiting until the end of his term to re enroll in the program and try to collect another tidy sum before he decides whether to run again?. Any County attorneys wish to comment? As a FX County taxpayer I would like my money returned since you broke your contract with me.

All that I can ask you to do is to not give up on this issue. Keep pressing on it. Don't let this get swept under the rug. $1 million dollars is not chump change. As I understand it, Mr. Barry would not be allowed or considered for the DROP program because he's an elected official. Yet, he found a way to skirt the law to get into the program.

Why should the man repay his salary & benefits, which he earned, to the taxpayers?

Ditto on the signs. Your supporters came by and removed the huge sign that you had just north of 66 on Nutley but they left the 8 foot high posts behind. There are also others in the area that haven't been removed either. I guess that you won't be back for them.

It has been brought up a few times, VDOT is only allowed to take the signs down. Though, I assume some of the various campaigns have gotten out there to clean up their own mess - as can be seen by some selectively removed signs in areas where others exist.

As to Stan Barry removing his signs? Ha! He's still partying from last Tuesday when the road to his $1 million dollar payday continued. Yee Haw. Thank you to the Fairfax County taxpayers ... I'm glad I don't reside in the county.

So the million $ is his pay plus retirement. What are you, a socialist? If you don't like it, move your effort into changing the law. Don't act like an Occupy protestor. Find a solution, a better one. I have never heard of anyone trying to take a man's pay away. Its not like Fairfax County lost $10 million and he gave himself a bonus. This is his paycheck. So far he hasn't violated any of the Drop rule, it hasn't been three years yet. They say it wasn't meant for county employees who hold political positions. Then just change the law and move on with it. You make it sound like he's not even entitled to his own paycheck that he has worked for three years.

If they say DROP wasnt meant for county employees that hold a political position, why was he allowed to enroll in it 3 years ago.? For those three years he didnt contribute to the county retirement system like thousands of other county employees did. Stan knows the job market sucks now , didnt want to scrounge for a new job and worked to circumvent the rules.Wonder if intends to put those three years of retirement funds back into the county system. Really confirms about what I always thought about the sheriffs office.

There is nothing that is going to happen in March, the county has determined what to do long ago. They are letting him stay on. They made that decison over a year ago. Why you keep bringing it up is a mystery. The voters were well aware of the issue and it clearly was not a concern to them.

Not a done deal yet. Two things:

(1) Barry first stated that he would not draw a taxpayer-funded salary if he stayed in the elected Sheriff position. Now he has changed his mind.

(2) The VA General Asssembly is considering legislation to prohibit elected officials from participating in Fairfax County's Deferred Retirement Option Program. You can read the text here:
