The biggest reason is budget cuts. All competitions for cheerleading are in the fall. So the only reason to have them in the winter is to cheer on basketball. As a basketball parent I can tell you they served no purpose except to annoy us at the games. The cheerleading coach gets paid for both seasons. So by canceling the winter season the school saves thousands in coaches salaries.

You severely overestimate how much a coach gets paid

A better question is why aren't there any spectators at hs bball games?

Too many cheerleading squads. Freshmen, JV, Varsity, Competitive, Dance. Eliminate all but one. And it's not a sport. It's a pep squad with pom-poms. In FFX County, everything is made out to be a bigger deal than it really is. And take that Oakton/Centreville/Langley cheerleading decal off your rear view window. This is no accomplishment. Oh look, little Brittney can do a split and a cartwheel. Why, golly gee. Next up, she'll do some reading and rithmatic.
