Awoke after 3am today to the sound of fly-overs over mythe house into Westa Springfield. Anyone know what's going on ? Norad or something else out of Belvoir?

It woke me up. It was really loud - by the time I looked out the window, all I could see was twos helicopters flying overhead (that's definitely not what I heard).

I saw two choppers heading east , then they split with one circling back to the west and another turning south. probably just looking for donuts.

Was pretty well documented at WTOP that NORAD had planned exercises from 3AM-5AM last night.

WASHINGTON (AP) - NORAD is planning an exercise this week in the Washington region to enhance its skills and test a warning system.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command will conduct exercise Falcon Virgo 12-01 Wednesday morning.
The exercise is designed to hone NORAD's intercept and identification operations and test the region's visual warning system. Civil Air Patrol aircraft, Air Force F-16s and a U.S. Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter will participate in the exercise. These flights will take place between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.
A civilian Beechcraft King Air aircraft will also fly patterns about 1,000 feet above ground level between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. to help calibrate systems and equipment.

I heard it too. I'm basically on Zion so close to Fairfax Station.
If those were helicopters then they were using that sound dampening technology because they didn't sound like helicopters and at first I wasn't sure if it was something in the sky or whether it was a train passing by with heavy cargo or something.
It certainly was an annoying thing and I hate the fact that they do these exercises at night instead of during the day.
If they absolutely need to do this shit at night then I say they should fly over a sparsely populated area instead of the heart of Fairfax. It wouldn't take a helicopter or jet to fly 50 miles and find an area that isn't developed. 50 miles or so is nothing when you're flying.
Bunch of assholes if you ask me.
