McLean Bible Church

Everyone has the right to believe whatever they wish. I happen to believe that the Holy Bible is the inspired word of God, and what it says is what I believe regardless of the church I attend.

I would recommend reading Lee Strobel's book, Case for Christ. He is an attorney who absolutely did not buy into the whole Christianity thing. But the more he researched, studied, and looked at the account of history, he was convinced the Bible is true.

Do you believe George Washington was the first President of the United States? Did you ever meet him? Did he prove it to you? Of course not. But history says he was and most people believe that to be a fact.

The account of Jesus is real, the question is whether or not He is the Son of God. Well, I believe He was and I guess time will tell. The way I figure it I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If I choose to live the way the Bible instructs me, I have lived a good and moral life with a relationship with God I win. If I die and it's all a lie then I have lived a good moral life with a relationship with God that doesn't exist but believing gave me comfort.

Didn't we already have a huge thread on this?

Good for you. I can't say that I find that position particularly rational, but you are welcomed to it.

I read that as well. I wasn't impressed.

That's not entirely true - he claims to have been a disbeliever prior to being a believer, not prior to writing the book.

I'm not sure why you find his conversion particularly compelling though.

Do you believe that George Washington never told a lie?

I don't ask for proof, I ask for reasonable evidence.

What do you mean 'real' in this context? Did Jesus exist? Probably. Are the accounts in the NT 'historical'? Probably not.

Pascal's wager - a poor argument.

What if Ahura Mazda is actually God? Then you will have fallen victim to Ahiriman's schemes and you will suffer for it - so there is a penalty for believing in a false God.

That depends on your moral beliefs with regard to Christianity. If you killed witches because you believed that the bible told you to, well, I can't exactly endorse such a life style.

Also, what does McLean Bible Church have to do with this?

Christianity is a crock of shit. Pick up a book on Charles Darwin. Evolution was proven long ago. If poor religious saps need something to cling to, that's fine. Just don't try to brainwash the population with this drivel. We are too smart for that!

When you carry the Bible, the Devil gets a headache….. When you open it, he collapses….. When he sees you reading it, he faints….. When he sees that you are living what you read, he flees…. And when you are about to re-post this message…. he will try and discourage you.. I just defeated him!!! Now let's see how many other believers on FU have the faith to re-post this and defeat him!

You realize that the 'devil' or 'satan' was actually on God's side in the Old Testament, don't you?

So why would I want to go against God by beating up the devil?

That just makes no sense.

You are in despair my friend. At least you are aware of yourself. However, your reasoning is unfaithful to God. You may believe in God, but you have no faith. Start over and read a different book.

Whether god is real or not, I can't say for sure. What I do know, is that ever since I've started reading the bible at night my dick has grown 3 inches and my poop smells like watermelon jolly ranchers. PRAISE JESUS!
