B 52 Stratofortress over Burke
Posted by: Love Shack ()

Just saw the coolest thing to happen to Burke.....ever. A B-52 Stratofortress just passed the area at low altitude, banked to the East. An impressive sight with those four engines and the power alone behind those powerplants. Anyone aware if it was associated with an event at the Air Force Memorial in Arlington? Sorry, no pics, it was rolling around at close to its performance capabilities.

Republicans have decided to cut the Air Force budget and are testing out legacy aircraft that can be used.

The B52 was very effective in Vietnam and being consider for service.

If B52s were good enough for the Founding Fathers, by God, they are good enough for us!

Tupelovs better aircraft. This means bomber. Bombers drop bombs. That's why they are called bombers. Bombay doors open, and away. Ordinance explodes. This means explosives. Some call them bombs. In Ukraine Tupelovs much better than B 52s. Tupeov's better than B1, B2. These are inferior product.

Good chance it wasn't a B-52, considering a B-52 has 8 engines, 2 at each of 4 wing mounting points.

It's even cooler to watch a B-52 crash and burn!

My favorite plane-spotting experience was some years ago. I happened to be at the National Airport Metro and saw FI-FI land.

FI-FI is the last flyable B-29 Super Fortress in existence. Two B-29s ended WWII by dropping two atomic bombs on the Japanese homeland.

You sure it wasn't a C-17 ? I see them go buy occassionaly. If you facing the Target / Walmart area you can see them go by overheard and bank pretty good. I've always assumed them were coming into or out of Andrews AFB.

I've seen C-17s in this area from time to time. A B-52 would be pretty unusual these days. I guess if there was a funeral of a member of the Top Brass who had flown a B-52 back during Nam or something like that, it would make sense.

The Air Force is unconstitutional! An Army and Navy yes, but not an Air Force!

Show me where in the U.S. constitution it specifically says the government should maintain an Air Force?

Actually I think you are referring to the Bill of Rights which were amendments to the Constitution, not in the Constitution.

Uh, the Commerce Clause is not only in the Constitution, it's in the first article of the Constitution...

A very large, police-escorted, funeral procession rolled thru Clarendon today shortly after 12, presumably on it's way to Arlington Cemetery. The jet probably flew over shortly afterwards.

Did another fly-over at 3:05. The Defense Department sends out tweets when they are doing fly-overs at Arlington.

I work near Arlington and someone in the office mentioned it sounds like a B-52 flying overhead around 3PM. I guess it all makes sense now. I looked out the window but didn't see anything, too bad I missed it.

As someone just pointed out, the B-52 is still in service. It is still the best way we have to drop a ton of bombs a long way away. Their range is ridiculous these days with all the upgrades. It goes 8800 miles without refueling.

This was an Arlington Cemetery flyover.

Those babies are still around, and they're awesome.

When I was in the A.F., a B-52 burned at my base and killed 5 people. It turns out the aircraft was improperly grounded for one of the maintenance procedures. After it was all said and done, the "remaining" parts of the bomber were placed into a roll-off dumpster.

They were wild to watch when on alert during an inspection. The elephant walking that they do, the touch n' go's they'd do on the runway, etc. It's truly a beast.

The B-1 that started to replace it turned out to initially be a P.O.S. They'd leak fuel and had other issues.

You're a fool if you believe a bunch of drunken, broke Ukrainians can maintain a Soviet-era bomber force better than the USAF. Get fucked.
