Best Used CD store for selling?

I have a bunch of CDs I want to get rid of. Has anyone sold CDs and/or LPs to a local store? I'm wondering which one will pay the best, and also I'm wondering which store might have the best selection if I trade them for store credit.

I sold some on Craigslist but was a hassle to sell off CDs 5 or 10 at a time and have to email people and take time to meet them, so I stopped that.

I called the Fairfax Record & Tape Exchange, but apparently they're full and aren't buying at the moment. I was thinking of checking out the CD Cellar. Has anyone done business with either of these places, or any others around here?

McKays used books in manassas, but they generally give you store credit. They had a branch in Centreville, but they closed that one.

Is P&L CD's still in Vienna? They used to be across Maple Ave from the Giant

Down little river turnpike off Picket in the same shopping center as total wine and the Chuckee Cheese there is a record store that sells and buys used cds. Give them a try

CD Cellar's pretty good, but you'd be lucky to get more than a few dollars per disc. You have to have good titles that are known and popular that they can turn around quickly, and they won't take discs that have even the slightest scratches.

Go at the end of the business day after customers have spent time racking up sales. They'd probably be more inclined to offer you a little extra in the evenings, but also be prepared to be offered next to nothing considering the economy. I think the most I ever sold was worth $60 from old DVDs and a bunch of old CDs combined, but that was years ago.

Last time I was in there, I found a great record I'd been looking for, then realized a few days later that I could've purchased it from Best Buy for $6 less.

Yeah, I saw that on the website and I'm puzzled. Can't they use a disc repair machine on scratched CDs?

That's why I asked. I haven't been in Vienna for a long time to do any sort of "business", but I'd hit that place up quite a bit when I lived there.

CD Cellar does take slightly scratched CDs; they just have a high level of quality control, and that's what sets them apart from the few other stores in the area. These days, EVERYONE is looking to sell their CD and DVD collections. That alone will bring the value of a customer's trade in down... Not to mention factors like the economy being what it is and the low cost of media on sites like amazon.com where people are selling CDs and DVDs for as low as a penny.

CD Cellar doesn't use re-surfacing machines. It's their understanding that the machines just buff away the protective layers and make the discs more prone to future scratches.

If you really want an honest deal from people who've been in the business for years CD Cellar is your best bet.

Does anyone know if they still do record shows in the area anymore? They used to have them at area hotels, lots of old vinyl, hard to find CDs, etc.....

Get an Amazon account and sell 'em there if you can afford to wait for your money. It's a hassle but you can get about twice as much selling them to end users instead of retailers.

What do ya go anyway?

You're wasting your time trying to sell them to a store. Sell them on Ebay, Amazon, and/or Craigslist. The Craigslist ads are free.

Or you can go here and see what its worth before you send it in.

I used these guys back when they were Millennium music and they would give you credit toward the purchase of an iPod. So I transferred all my music to digital from the CDs, sent the CDs in and ended up paying only $35 for a 40GB iPod. This was probably 2006 so they have changed how they do business.

But it wouldn't hurt to see what they have to offer. Good luck.
