Props to Fairfax City General District Court

I received a traffic ticket for "evading a traffic control device" because I cut through a parking lot to avoid having to wait at a red light to turn.

I went to court this morning and plead guilty. The judge was nice, but was no-nonsense (given all the knuckleheads he had to contend with). He asked me if there was anything else I wanted to add. I simply said that I recently passed the Driver Improvement Course and I will not be evading anymore traffic lights. Showing up, being polite and not giving the court any B.S. goes a long way!

He reduced my fine to $20 and the court will not be sending my ticket charge to the DMV. In and out within 35 minutes, I could almost say it was an enjoyable experience. Props to the well oiled wheels of Fairfax City justice. (County is another story)

Where did the infraction take place?

As with many laws, because some legislator didn't approve of some behavior and decided to make a law against it.

The infractions took place at the intersection next to the Best Western... turning from Chain Bridge Rd (minor) onto Eaton Pl. That double intersection is f*cked. Anyways, the cop said that the owners of Best Western don't want people cutting through so I he was sitting in the corner, waiting for my ass to roll through.

I'd imagine that most of the time, cops are not going to pull you over for cutting through a parking lot to "evade" a bitch of a red light. If there was a store present, it might be plausible to say something like, "I was going to buy something, but then changed my mind". Cops probably become more mindful of the law once a business owner complains.

Zak-I believe the judge you had was probably one of the ones that presides at trials in the County. A few years ago they used to rotate them between Fairfax County, Fairfax City and Herndon.

Nice to see they were protecting the interests of a private business more than citizens. Some clown shot mortar type fireworks in back of my house from 9 - 11 last night.

Yeah, nothing like having burning shit raining down on your roof and your car because dumb fuckers think it's a good idea to shoot off mortar-shell fireworks in the middle of densely-developed residential neighborhoods.

Fucking retarded douchebag.

Obviously you have no job - Mommy & Daddy support you while you stay up all night. I however had to get up for work at 4:30 A.M. By the way I have worked for the Department of Defense for over 30 years. Don't give me the "celebrating the independence of our country" speel. It's all about being a grown up kid playing with fire - douce.

Oh, and they are illegal:

Any firework, which explodes, emits a flame or sparks higher than 12 feet, or performs as a projectile is prohibited by the Fairfax County Fire Prevention Code.

If you're going to use the same bullshit excuse over and over, at least throw in how you make $175,00 a year too.

Lying NIMBY fucktard.

I make $97,000 not $175,000. Now go outside and play little Johnny - it's a nice day outside. I'm going to mow the lawn.

You'd never get a pissant ticket like that from a Maryland cop.

I am so glad I don't live in Virginia.

It is a good law. It helps when you are putting gas in your car and and some yuppie in a BMW or a brother in a shiny Escalde cant wait at a light and blasts through the lot almost mowing people down. You dont like it then leave earlier and plan ahead.

That might qualify you for Sec. 8 housing in FFX.

It's funny, because I know a particular school parking lot that people whip through in order to dodge a traffic light, and yet they never receive tickets.

Same judges are in the Fairfax City and Fairfax County General District Courts.

While the courthouse building appears to be in the middle of Fairfax City, legally the land the court is on is part of Fairfax County.
