you'd be surprised how expensive those things are..

I have heard they also have small bits of C4 in them to cause the rapid explosion, but I have no idea.

Airbags are expensive to replace and install at the retail level. There are some 20,000 airbags for sale on Ebay. The right type go for several hundred dollars, even in used condition, meaning they have been removed intact from a car, not factory new. And of course, many new cars come with several air-bags. Dont know how hard it is to remove any given airbag from a car, but if you were going to rip-off a car and chop it, removing the airbags to resell would be part of your criminal due diligence.

Look at this one for the Mount Vernon District Station

MALICIOUS WOUNDING OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER / DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY / ASSAULT OF A FAMILY MEMBER / ARREST: A 15-year-old boy was
arrested after an altercation inside a home in the 8700 block of Triumph Court. Police were
called to the home on Tuesday, June 14 around 1:45 p.m. for a domestic dispute. They found the
teen locked inside the home and another family member outside. While trying to speak with the
teen through a window, he smashed the window with a baseball bat, sending glass into the
officer’s eyes and face. Additional officers responded and took the boy into custody. He was
transported to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with malicious
wounding on a law enforcement officer, destruction of property and assault on a family member.
The officer was treated for non life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

Lots of people stealing license plates. Why? As soon as it's reported the plate is no good and you're bound to get pulled over if the plate is run. Right? Maybe not? I don't get it.

How about the 4 wallets stolen from some business - must have been a salon or something with all the women working up front while their purses were in back.

Or something.

I once worked at a secure installation - entire campus fenced in and guarded by military police. Our building locked (or so we thought).

Guy comes walking through the computer room while I'm there - I glanced up and then went back to work, not really noticing anything out of the ordinary. Turns out he was just some random thief who walked down the hallway, entered a small library we had, rifled through the librarian's desk (she was out momentarily), grabbed her purse, took the wallet, left the purse in the stacks, and walked out of the building and off of the "secure" campus.

One of the main reasons is to evade officers actively looking for a stolen vehicle. A stolen red Honda Civic with Virginia tags NIGGAPLZ could become a red Honda Civic with Maryland tags FFUXFAG. Big difference to a cruiser on stolen car detail...or a camera that reads license tags.

Sounds like a gym. Lockers gone through. Pretty typical.
